$2000-$2500 build for video production/graphic design - Page 2

That GPU should do her wonders, that 4 processor build would be mega-overkill to say the least.

If she's not doing any 3D work then it's probably overkill and not the best use of her budget IMO.

Getting a gaming GPU for a workstation PC is not the best idea, grab a cheap quadro, that's what they are for. The 7950 is a great GPU and has good Compute performance, but she probably wont need that. Also, you are going to want to go with nvidia because of Adobe's support for Cuda.

Here is a quick build $2200 build (Click to show)
PCPartPicker part list

CPU: Intel Core i7-3930K 3.2GHz 6-Core Processor ($564.86 @ NCIX US)
CPU Cooler: Corsair H80i 77.0 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler ($105.30 @ Amazon)
Motherboard: ASRock X79 Extreme6 ATX LGA2011 Motherboard ($219.99 @ Amazon)
Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws Z Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-2133 Memory ($124.99 @ Newegg)
Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws Z Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-2133 Memory ($124.99 @ Newegg)

Storage: Seagate Barracuda 3TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($129.98 @ Outlet PC)
Storage: Samsung 840 Series 120GB 2.5" Solid State Disk ($97.99 @ B&H)
Video Card: PNY Quadro 400 512MB Video Card ($99.24 @ Amazon)
Case: NZXT Source 210 (White) ATX Mid Tower Case ($45.98 @ Newegg)
Power Supply: Rosewill Capstone 450W 80 PLUS Gold Certified ATX12V / EPS12V Power Supply ($73.98 @ Newegg)
Keyboard: Cooler Master Storm Quick Fire Pro Wired Gaming Keyboard ($99.99 @ Newegg)
Mouse: Logitech M500 Wired Laser Mouse ($28.87 @ B&H)
Other: achieva shimian qh270 (Ebay) ($350.00)
Total: $2196.14
(Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available.)

If there will be 3D rendering done, I would upgrade the GPU to a GTX 570, should only about $100 more. But you will need to increase the Capstone PSU to a 550W+.

A GTX 580 is a lot better than a Quadro 4000 (Costs $600) for what she'll be doing, besides the Quadro more suited for 3D animation and such instead of video editing. Did I mention it costs about half as much?

thanks, i noticed the video card is 512Mb, i dont know a whole lot about workstation GPUs, but what would the benefit would that have over, a 3Gb 570?,

i do not think she will be doing much 3D rendering, i will have to ask her, but even if she doesnt, would the 570 be a better choice all together, or is the workstation GPU better? thanks

Even the 1.25GB 570 would be better, but it does cost more. The Quadro 400 is a good card for the applications being done, Part of what really makes the workstation cards better is that they use different drivers than the gaming GPUs. Gaming drivers focus on FPS and games primarily, and focus on applications second. Workstation drivers focus on applications primarily.
