Intel 520 SSD 480GB

Hello:
Just yesterday I received and installed my Intel 520 480GB SSD. I installed the SSD as the enclosed instruction guided me. All went well with the installation. I then went online to www.intel.com and found the migration software. Downloaded the software and installed as per the instruction. The migration went well. No problems. I then downloaded the Intel software tool box. I installed the software as per the instructions. The install went without a problem. After completing the install I opened the software toolbox and followed the prompts.I amalyzed the drive and executed the suggestions that appeared in the results. The only item was to turn off prefetch. This I did. I then checked for firmware updates and results indicated no updates available. The graph appeared that showed drive health and other information. It is begining to sound like I do not have any problems, but alas that is not the case.

I ran CrystalMarkDisk and noticed that the results seemed to be less than what I had expected. After reading in the forums, I did a restart and went into the BIOS and noticed that AHCI had not been enabled. I enabled AHCI, saved the changes and did a reboot. I then ran CrystalMark again and my results were much better. I thought all was ok. That was enough for one day
.
This morning I started the computer and immediately went to the Intel Software tool box and was expecting all to be ok. Not to be. The software opened and showed drive useage and then another window opened on top of the toolbox which stated that the drive was not connected. The message said scanning for other drives. The SSD is the only drive I have on the computer. I waited for an hour and no results. The other message stated that SMART monitoring was off and the toolbox would not work with it turned off. I did not turn off SMART monitoring. Obviously something did.

I did a restart and went into the BIOS (AmericanMegaTrendds VER:3027- 10/31/2011) My motherboard is the Asus M4A89GTD PRO USB. I looked all through the BIOS menu for something that would appear to be SMART Monitor. I found nothing. Presently the computer is working as it should, no BSOD or any other complaints. My main issue is my inability to use the Intel software tool box. According to Intel this piece of software is really necessary in order to maintain the health of the SSD.
My storage configuration is as follows:
Sata Ports 1-4 are set as AHCI. SSD
Sata Ports 5-6 are set as IDE. Optical Drives

I have uninstalled software and reinstalled and still have the same results. I expect that the SMART monitor is my problem. If anyone can help me with this problem I would appreciate it.

You don't need the intel tool box...

Hello:
Thanks for your reply. Would it be possible to elaborate a little further and explain your reasoning. I have just installed my first SSD and really have a steep learning curve. If not the Intel SSD Toolbox, what does one use for SSD health monitoring? Another tool box from another vendor?

Reasoning for what?

You can check the smart data with crystal disk info. However, you need smart monitoring enabled in the BIOS. The setting to enable it should be near the SATA mode settings.
