[Various] NZXT Kraken X40 & X60 Water Cooler Reviews - Page 15

I have a question for XNine, maybe you can answer.

I just picked up a Kraken X60 and I want to replace the stock fans with Cougar CF-V14HB witch are 3 pin fans does the Kraken have the ability to controls the speed on the 3 pin fans?
and what is the Pin lay out on the hookups on the Kraken?

Fan in question: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835553007

Thanks.

Thanks.

Shouldn't have an issue with 3pin fans.

The noise you mention at 19mins, I'm having it too, the cause of it is that the pressure air being pulled by the fan's blades is so strong it also pulls the blades back a tiny bit making it scrape whatever is right under them, that's why the sound only happens while the computer is under load, at full fan speed however, my noise stops (to have your fans at full speed go to Fan Settings, then click on the Fan Image. This will allow you to temporary have manual override over your fan speeds.). I got the X60 at the bottom of my Thermaltake Armor Plus and it does the same thing to me too, what I'm thinking of doing about it?, I have 8 small rubber washers which I'm going to put between the fans and the case which should stop this noise. I find it weird how I'm only having this problem with only one of the 2 fans though....

PS: I USED to get actual pump/water noise, but it completely stopped after a day or two, I guess you just needed to run the cooler a bit to break it in or who knows...

Anyone have a how to...for a 650D so i can get me a X60?

I just built up 4 systems with the Kraken x60 using 550D cases. While technically the spacing was wrong, the holes were the wrong spacing, the included (from the case) rubber grommets allowed for the Kraken to be mounded without any problem.

See my build log: [Build Log] Double Twins

And BTW, I absolutely *LOVE* these coolers. My heart will always be a "custom loop" builder, but I will be using these on just about every other build I do for people who don't want the hassle of loop maintenance.

I had this noise problem as well, on one fan, and only at very low speed (ie when the units are OC'd but not when they are at 100% load). One of the 8 fans has a slight "rattle". If I adjust the default fan profile up just a bit to increase the RPMs, the noise goes away totally. On 3 of the systems, the Kraken x60 is virtually silent at idle even at 4.6GHz on stock 3570K and 3770K systems. Even at 100% load (ie when I'm Folding on them), the noise is MUCH lower than even my custom loop using AP-14 fans.

The control software needs work. It should allow for further lowering of the fan speed below the 25% it allows (which is still loud). I ended up using my motherboard to control the fan speed directly and was able to get the fans nearly as silent as I would like. Would be great to see the software updated at some point.

I agree... the software needs a lot of work, here are some problems I'm experiencing.

1) I have 2 different times of fans, the order in which you connect them is important because it will determine whats the minimum speed at which they run (so connect the slowest ones first).

2) The fan speed controller, it does not really work properly, set at "25%" runs my bitfenix fans at 1000~ RPM when the max of them is 1200RPM.

3) Why is 25% the minimum speed? I would preffer if it was 10% at least... actually that would be perfect.

NZXT team please don't let me down, I've recommended this product to several people (not to mention I've bragged about it) and I've build 1 of my friends computers with the X40, working on another build for another friend in which I was also planning on getting the X40 for him.

You've guys worked hard on this product, please finish it, thanks for this awesome product!
