Can't click while typing!

Hi, just bought a new laptop (Sony Vaio SVE14A2C5E), and am having problems with the touchpad.

The touchpad click button seems to disable itself while keys are being pressed, and it is impossible to click within 1-2 seconds of finishing typing. This makes it difficult to quickly fill in online forms etc and impossible to play games without a mouse (Yes I have a mouse but prefer to use the touchpad in certain situations).

I have looked at the Synaptics control panel and have disabled smart sense, which allows me to move the touchpad while typing, but still does not allow me to click, and there are no other options to enable this.

Anybody got any ideas how to fix it? Is it possible to use non-sony drivers that will allow me to sort it out? Thanks

It's probably another setting in Synaptics somewhere, to stop you from accidentally clicking with your palm while typing.
Try removing Synaptics drivers if you can't find anything, just to see if that is indeed the issue.

If I remove the drivers won't that prevent me from using the touchpad completely? And I have been through all the settings in Synaptics, definitely nothing there! The only one that comes close is Smartsense, which after disabling it only allows me to move the trackpad while typing, I still can't click.

It will still work fine. The drivers are only there for touch scrolling, multitouch, and stuff like that.

Ah, Now it works fine, but obviously I've now lost the multitouch gestures. Do you think it be possible to use the drivers intended for a different pc? I know the HP drivers allow you to enable the click while typing, there just doesn't seem to be a setting on my vaio.

You might be able to find some newer drivers direct from Synaptics. Manufacturer driver pages often are outdated.
You could try! It's worth a shot, but it's a crapshoot. It may or may not work. Find the model of your touchpad, or the hardware ID in device manager and look it up.
