My Chassis fans are not detected in BIOS?

Thread Starter
Hello. Im a little confused on something if you can help me. I built my pc a few days ago and just now i decided to take a look in the BIOS just to see my startup cpu temp. I noticed in the "Monitoring" tab, there is chassis fan 1, chassis fan2, chassis fan3, chassis fan 4(there is also cpu fan but thats irrelevant), but it only shows the rpm for the third chassis fan which is 850, all the other ones are N/A. My case has a total of 3 built in fans. Does this mean that the other 2 case fans in my corsair 400r are not working? I feel a small breeze coming from the front of the case which is where the 2 fans are but the BIOS cant detect them but the breeze is VERY light as in i can barely feel it but i thought thats normal because they are small size fans.

Are they plugged into the motherboard, or the PSU?  If they're in the motherboard, then that is quite interesting.  If they're in the PSU, then that's the way it is.

there was a 4 pin molex plug coming out of the case that i plugged in with the psu. Im looking at the 2 fans in the front right now. I cant entirely tell but they do seem like they are spinning to me. Do you think a program like speedfan will tell me if all the fans are working or not by telling me the rpm of each fan?

If they're plugged into the PSU, then there's no way to monitor them.  It sounds like they're plugged into the PSU through some kind of cable provided by the case.

yeah . When i was building the pc i was a bit confused at first because i thought there would be a 3 pin connector but instead, there was a molex plug coming directly out of the case and i figured that is what i need to plug into the psu to get the 2 front fans to work. The fan in the back on the other hand used a 3 pin connector. Do you think maybe a program like CPUID/speedfan would tell me whether the fans are functioning or not or because they are plugged into the psu, no program will sensor them ?

I don't know.  You can certainly try CPUID's HWMonitor and SpeedFan.  I mean, it won't hurt and it should only take a minute or so to get them and test them.

Like you said though, it feels like they're working, so that's a very good sign.  :)

nvm im pretty sure the front 2 fans are spinning even though they are moving so fast that i can barely see them. You're right though, I dont know how it would make sense for my bios to report the speeds of those 2 fans if they are connected to the PSU instead of the motherboard anyways. thanks for the help

You're welcome, 4moon!

I do understand where you're coming from.  For me, my system is my baby, so everything is important!

I have to get going though.  I'll be back later sometime.

Right, the yellow wire (on a 3 pin connector) reports RPM to the motherboard, so if it isn't connected the motherboard doesn't even know the fans are there.
