When they come out with a keyboard dock that turns this into a screen-supporting laptop (think Transformer Prime), I'm getting one.

Intel's Atom SoC and Ivy Bridge processors are good, but neither have hit the sweet spot yet.

Maybe with Haswell ULV we'll see a product with battery life more like cloverfield(10hrs)but that can support more than 2 gb of ram and have Intel HD graphics. But perhaps the most important thing will be form factor, how much thinner will 10W Haswell tablets be? Will they be fanless?

I'm interested in seeing 2nd gen surface pro.

Plus you have to drop another $100-$200 for the keyboard?
Id rather get a Macbook Air and toss Windows 8 if I was after Windows 8 in a nice hardware package. It would cost about the same as the Pro + keyboard and you get a better trackpad, battery life and can run any OS you want.

Its not really a tablet, though. Its more of a hybrid given the specs. Battery life under Windows for the MBA is less than the Surface Pro and you also lack the digitizer/pen input that the Surface has. Not to mention the resolution is better.

yeah but the integrated keyboard and touchpad make the mba better for x86 apps. the touchpad on the surface is tiny

I didn't know the macbook air had a touch screen? rolleyes.gif

That is why we are looking at these types of devices, is it not?

This isn't a laptop, it's a tablet first and foremost with the option to make into a full blown laptop with the optional keyboard.

This doesn't seem as if it's catered towards you, since what you suggested defeats the whole purpose of the surface in the first place.

The surface replaces both a tablet (app store is constantly growing) and a (if you'd like) laptop, streamlining it into one device, hence where premium price comes in.

For $899 I think it's a steal, since you're potentially replacing the price of two devices with the ease of use into only 1 single device.

By the way, Acer has the w700 out with an i3/i5, a dock, keyboard, and a 9 hour battery life priced at 779/899 respectably on Amazon right now.

Just my 2cents.gif

Battery will be a key factor to this device. The problem i see is that if you want to use as PC you need to spend more $ and its not really that fast. If you want to use it as a Tab it has same Cons as RT about not having many Tab Apps and the fact that it a lot heavier and probably shorter battery life.

That's why it has a touchscreen with 1024 levels of pressure. The touchpad on the MBA has, at best, 2 levels(On and Off). I'd like to see you try and use a MBA while standing or in any position other than a desk.

There are pros and cons for both, obviously. A $500 iPad 4 has many cons on a $500 Core i3 laptop, but comparing the two to one another does justice to neither.

Lmao. Surface Pro is not meant to compete with the iPad. It is a total laptop replacement that can also function as a damn good tablet.
