That's pretty much what I was thinking. I'm happy with Chrome right now, and I don't see anything that will make me switch over.

hahaha yeah you're right, maybe he does.

Apart from App Compatibility, why would you? *nix is far better than NT assuming you can find the apps you're looking for, honestly, OS X is really nice apart from the GUI IMO.

I have a portable version of Chrome and Firefox installed on a USB for just such an occasion. (Also, for when I'm at Uni, lets me have my extensions)

I would have agreed a few months ago, but google has tightened their hold on which plugins are and are not available. With the latest changes to how extensions are installed, it's pretty clear that they're trying ot lock down and make a closed ecosystem just like apple. I can't support a browser that is purposely limited like that.

Right now I'm using Opera. It's not as fast and the shortcuts are a bit hard to get used to, but I'm giving it a go.

Since most of their apps are free, it's really not like apple, all that much. have they actually gotten rid of any good apps?

I have Windows on all of my Mac's - and run OSX as well as a few Linux distros on my PC's - who gives a crap? In a world where 3TB costs a couple hundred dollars why limit yourself to a single browser, OS, application, platform, etc.? rolleyes.gif

Almost every one of their free apps are available from Apple (and likewise nearly every *nix variant comes with equivalents - naturally for free as well)... Not sure how this makes for a closed ecosystem in their case but not in the others (or do you mean because they're not willing to opensource entirely in-house funded products?) On the other hand if you mean the nominal pricing Apple charges for office equivalents - Office isn't 'free' either - unless you like watching ads and having a crippled version of Word & Excel.

I'm not defending Apple here - I disagree with nearly all of their business practices (like why I'm not allowed legally to install OSX on anything I want) and patent-predation which is completely out of hand with them. However, you're not being fair or logical... they are both similar companies behaving similarly. wink.gif

What kind of drives are you using... I probably have a 320GB in a box around my office I could give you - I think I destroyed about 300 drives when we last moved offices... but I've somehow managed to accumulate about 30-40 over the last 2 years again. biggrin.gif It's quite possible I already trashed all the <500GB drives in the move... but I'd be happy to see. I think I had workstations running both Seagate and WD 320s a couple years back.
