There is no best VRM at low price point. 15 years ago, all VRM were the same.
10 years ago all VRM were the same.
Cheap mobos have cheap VRM. There is no best VRM at low price point, They are all the same.

The $40 mobo and $60 mobo will have same VRMs, i have said it several times.

OK. Think of it this way.

Mobo = Car.
VRM = Tires.

Toyota Corolla = Mobo
Honda Civic = Mobo

Which one do you chose?? Civic or Corolla?

Best as relative to the price point, there is a best $40 motherboard in terms of VRM quality. Just like the hyper 212+ is the 'best' heatsink at $15. It's definitely not the best heatsink, just the best at $15.

I don't think your still following the conversation. So don't worry about it.

As for $40 and $60 mobo having same VRMs, I really doubt that's true, but if it is true, you obviously just go for the $40 motherboard... that looks the best.

I don't know if you understand what I've been getting at still... but I'll bite. I think your analogy about civic vs corolla is a bad analogy because a motherboard is 100% functionality - what holes it has, the socket, the chipsets, if it has the right amount of PCI-E slots. Unlike the Civic vs Corolla where one might be more comfortable, or aesthetically pleasing (although aesthetics can be a seller for motherboards, but I dont think it's going to be a big deal to the sub-$80 motherboard price range except to choose from a couple identically VRM'd boards maybe, in which case it's more like it doesnt matter which you choose, not that the civic or corolla is more comfortable or better). Features aren't really goign to be important on a sub$100 motherboard as long as **** fits.

And there are soooo many electronic circuits on a motherboard. You might find 5 motherboards with the same VRM at $40, but surely one of them will have a worse or better memory VRM, a super i/o VRM, a super i/o chip, et cetera, better quality caps on the less-critical components, better electrical efficiency, et cetera. You might find a bunch of motherboard with the same CPU VRM, but you could choose the motherboard with the better VRM on different parts.

Trust me when I say this, most people don't but it's nice for people to understand the importance of it so at least they know what their buying. Some people care to know, some don't. Will it make people buy the mobo that has the better VRM or "the better built mobo?" Of course not but they'll have more info that will make them consider it...And if the individual know how to shop, they will see that he/she can buy the better designed mobo for the price of the lower priced mobo with the lesser quality mobo components.

Forget all the car comparison crap and ask yourself this question. Would you like to know what's better out there that you can have if you can buy a better mobo for basically the almost the same or same price as the mobo with less quality components ?

Yea, but i mean there's a 'right and wrong' purchase, or at least 'better/worse'. I'm not really sure a good analogy because parts are so complex and certain components always perform better and worse in certain applications... but let's say if you only play video games, it would be dumb to buy a bulldozer over a comparably priced Intel chip. They both work, the bulldozer will still own any modern game, and any future game, and the bulldozer is definitely better in certain applications, like H264 encoding performance ie streaming (which, unlike gaming, any CPU will struggle with except the best of the best), but purely for gaming, the Bulldozer would be a 'bad buy' compared to an an intel chip at the same price level.

So yea, a lot of this is I guess understanding that you really dont need to spend much on a motherboard, realizing/understanding/knowing how to buy a better quality motherboard for a lower price than you might originally have considered, and knowing how to intelligently spend more money if you actually need to spend more money.

Personally for myself, I prefer an OCing mobo that has the better quality onboard components while spending as less as possible. I know how to make that happen...My secret...Be patient & seek for the awesome deal...Works all the time for me

Especially for used parts. I've bought a 'broken' phenom x4 (now working at 3.7+ ghz 30+ hour prime, still testing it) for $31, a noctua nh-d14 for $43, 4850 1gb for $25, and got some pk1/pk2/pk3 for free... no way am i ever buying anything new again ^^

You are stuck on VRM's as if it was a Gods gift to man kind.You are way over thinking such a simple thought process.

Forget VRM's for a moment and lets say ALL mobos have crappy VRM,s. Which one do you chose? You chose based on features and options that you need. And if all mobos have same features at same price, only then you can chose a color.

Corolla and Civic is a good example, because they are direct competitors against each other in same class. And once again you over thinking with comfort and aesthetics; these things are personal preference, and doesnt change the price of a car or makes one better then the other. They are both Economy cars. Both cars cost around the same price. But you can also add options; leather, DVD, Nav, sport wheels, etc if you want to. But then the price goes up as it would with a mobo.
At the end of the day, both cars will get you from point A to point B equally well, just as any cheap mobo will let you surf the web and play games.

Your analogy is terrible, wrong, and i dont think your right. There's 20 motherboards at $50, which one do you choose if they are all basically the same? You buy the one with the best VRM, basically, and you generally just get the cheapest, acceptable board.

My analogy is terrible based on what? Your tunnel visions and thinking process? Show me 4 cheapest mobos with worlds best VRM that you can buy. Go on, show me. You might as well say that i can buy a Civic with a Ferrari Engine, or a JDM Type-R engine at same price as i can buy a Civic with a Honda economy engine from a dealer.

You have done zero research and zero comparisons between 20 motherboards at $50 or $100.

Go ahead and show me at least 4 cheapest mobos out of 20 that have best VRM.

Put your money where your mouth is and post links of 20 mobos and 4 mobos with best or better VRM at same price or closest price as possible..

You might as well start a debate on Organic milk.

I like to have at least two PCIE X16 slots, decent VRM cooling (I blew the VRMs on my last mobo), anything after that is just gravy. Those two issues are the most important to me. I prefer the 2 x16 lanes because I run SLI, when I had a card at x16 and one at x8 the difference between running them both at x16 was pretty noticeable.

How much are you willing to spend?

What are your brand preference?

What chip set?

Which CPU will you be using?
post #40 of 45
Right now I'm using a 1090t, would spend upwards of $200, brand does'nt matter so much as the other prefs are met. Must do SLI
