Project Essence

OK, so I have decided to finally post a build here. I have been a lurker for a while now, always looking at other peoples rigs and drooling, never posting any of my own. I am not a very heavy modder; I like to keep things pretty simple. Hence the reason why I have never thought of posting anything here before.

Well, times have changed and I thought I'd poke my head out of the shadows and stick my chest out a bit, and strut a bit of my stuff.

This isn't really too big of a build, again, nothing fancy, but will be VERY clean (I hate unsightly cables!). Since Newegg was running some great deals last week, I decided to put some of my hard earned money into their pockets in exchange for some nice toys. The following is a list of the products I have ordered. I am still awaiting the case to arrive, though.

I had initially thought of going with an SSD, but after so many failing on me in the past, I have decided to forgo the headache and head for twin 10K RPM velociraptors, especially since they were on a killer sale! They will be placed into RAID 0 array with nightly imaging onto my NFS server sitting in the other room with 16 TB RAID6 array, so even if one does fail, it's less than 30 minutes to pull a backup from the server with little lost.

Let me know what you all think! I'll post pics of the beast as soon as the monster case arrives!

Looks like a beast of a computer. Happy building!

OK, so far so good!

Pulled the H80 out and just had to smirk.

Yeah, that's got to go!

Now all clean and ready for the good Arctic Silver 5!

Installed it into the case. After many grunts and explicit vocal expressions, I finally found the ONE SINGLE way it'll fit.

Or not..... This'll be a problem...... mad.gifmad.gifmad.gifmad.gifmad.gif

Any suggestions?!?!? I'm open to them!

Just want to add my 2 cents about the G.Skill Sniper series and AMD systems... I don't think you'll see any over clocking performance out of them frown.gif I have the 8 gig set and they don't even run at stock timings with my 990FX UD3 and FX-6100...

As for the side panel... Did you check the rails and slides for debris? Look down the edges for bends or damage? It was closed properly on arrival correct?

checked to make sure that the res was the issue. It is. So I decided, after much thinking and debating, to use my trusty file set and shave the screw holes slightly inward. Once that was done, it fit, but just barely. I didn't want to go too far in and press too close to the CPU power cable. about 2 or 3 mm and it was done. It fit enough for the case side to close. Here's the pics from the rest of the build:

The side fits!

Where I had to file the holes to the inside a bit

the panel to the lower area of the case was a perfect place to file some holes for the wires. Nice and clean this way.

looks to be coming together decently enough

the 670 FTW with 680-spec cooler. Some people have heard the 670 didn't come with a backplate. These pics show that it actually does. It looks better with it, IMHO

the twin sirens. Soon, babies. Soon you will sing!

Another far shot. I forgot to install the CPU power cable **DOH!!**
This shot shows the CPU power cable leading down behind the rad and through another filed hole in the panel going down to the power supply.

A quick shot of the dirty side before panel goes on to cover it up. A bit bulkier than I had hoped, but this was more than a rush job than usual.....

Everything installed and ready to boot her up! Time to cross fingers and watch the circuit breakers POP! thumb.gif

Eyore, thanks for the heads up. sure enough, the system booted with RAM speeds of no greater than 1333. Nothing I do will bring up the RAM speed to spec. Calling GSKILL shortly and asking them ***.

Looks great nicodarious.

And have you thought about that Samsung RAM that everyone on these forums is raving about? It is probably what I see recommended the most on here. Sorry I do not know the specific details for that RAM.
