Yeah... I've seen a couple other people with AMD systems buy that RAM... mad.gif Never works for them. I think it only works with Intel controllers.

As for the Samsung wonder RAM... hehe I bought 16 gigs and have my timings at 8-9-9-22 1800mhz with 1.5v. I'm still learning about OC'ing memory though. Nice solid and stable stuff. thumb.gif

Actually, it never occurred to me to check out about the Samsung RAM. My decision on that RAM was purely on amount of RAM vs cost during the black friday deals. (picked it up for $109 US).

I have, though, found a way to bring it from the 1333 slump to at least 1600 with tight 9-9-9-24 timings. It's stable and running at a nice 1600MHz. Happy me, for now!

Thanks for the tip on the Samsung RAM though. I'll check out the raves as soon as I get Gentoo to start compiling on Ess3nce!

as soon as gentoo becomes stable and I have a few minutes, I'll try to look into the timings and see if I can push it to the rated 1866 speed. I don't know too much about OCing RAM, but it's worth a try!

I need to get some faster running RAM to couple with my 965 BE so I can get that coveted 4.0, but I am a noob when it comes to OC'ing.

That is awesome that you got the RAM working nicodarious. Great that you didn't have to you deal with RMA and buying new RAM.

Ain't it the truth! I am SO freakin glad I didn't have to deal with THAT headache! But really, the RAM already worked, just at a very loose and slow default setting. Seems that with the 990FXA board, Vishra core processor, and this RAM, the default clock speeds are defaulted as low and slow as possible for some reason. Once manually configged, it seemed to work out decently enough.

Good luck on your ventures in OCing! I have an older 1035T in my NFS/SSH/FTP/media server, but never tried OCing it, since of course, it's up all the time and needs to be stable... and the system was pieced together from scrub parts, so not the best setup, but at least stable. I have heard that the 965 BEs are beasts with OCing though, so you might be in great luck when you feel you are ready to test the waters!

AMD has terrible memory controllers. lol

You could probably take that same set of RAM over to any Intel system and get almost 2000-2133mhz from it.

I know the Samsung RAM will hit 2400mhz+ at 1.55v on Intel setups. Yet mine seems stuck at the current settings...

Honestly, DDR3 is insanely fast even at 1600mhz and will almost never be the bottleneck of your system.

Wow. That's a nice push!

I am sitting stable at 1600, and since I got the RAM for a cheaper price than it's 1600 brothers (just a different heat spreader), I don't feel too ripped off anymore. I think I'll just sit tight with the slight OC to the CPU (4.2 regular with 4.4 turbo) and see how things pan out while compiling and installing Gentoo on the new b0x3n.

Thanks! Yeah, I love my 965 BE, it just eats whatever I throw at it and it was nicely priced. I have been doing my homework on OC'ing and when my semester is over I am going to put some more focus on to that. I also need to crack open my case and set up all my fans differently before I do any more tinkering, since I set them up wrong before and turned my computer into a vacuum cleaner on accident, haha, the joys of learning. Cheers.

How's your 8350 doing with turbo on?

Oh and I found that CPU/NB speed will effect your RAM and CPU stability.

Keep the CPUNB at 2200mhz and see if you can't get your RAM to 1866. Is that RAM the 1.5v edition?
