What socket is it? Most likely a 478, so lookk for 478 motherboards. The best one out there is the Asus P4P800 Deluxe, its a crazy motherboard for Skt 478.

Well assuming it is a skt 478 cpu
The ASUS P4S800D-X would make a good mobo
$53.99-http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813131527

The problem is that skt 478 mobos use AGP so lemme see whats a decent AGP gfx card.

If your son does some gaming a 7600GS would make a nice AGP card.
$128.99-http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814125039
If you just want a graphics card that works try a 9000 series card.

For a psu the Thermaltake 430W has good reviews and a low price.
$38.99-Also 15 dollar rebate to lower it more-http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817153023

For a cheap monitor look around because monitors usually have short deals where they are pretty cheap for a pretty good one. ~100

I've got a socket 478 3.0 Ghz with the Asus P4S800D-X !
Works mediumly well, has a few problems after a while, like trouble booting, and saying "overclocking failed" while I did not overclock...
But generally it's a good mobo for the price..

I think the X1650pro is better for AGP, but I'm not 100% on that.

$136 after shipping
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102056

For a monitor, Best Buy is having a 17" on sale for $79.99 on black friday, doors open at 5am.

The 7600GS is much better than the 1650pro so if you want to spend the extra money just go with the 7600GS.
