Consoles can pull of games like Halo 4 and Black Ops II because of game optimization and coding. Those games are specifically designed around the hardware in the Xbox 360 - that's why they perform so well and don't run into a bunch of issues. If you where to put X1950 XT + Athlon X2 3800+ system together and attempted to play Black Ops above 800 x 600 the PC would melt.
That's why an A10 + 6770 Crossfire won't have a single issue being in a console for 5+ years. The games will be coded around that specific hardware so that we yield even more impressive results. When the next-gen consoles drop they'll finally be able to handle TRUE 1920 x 1080, AA and AF just not upscale 720p. Hardware moves faster than software can catch up. A 5 year old Core 2 Duo is fast enough for most consumers - including a bunch of us (Enthusiasts) but since we're enthusiasts we like to have the "Newest" hardware available to the masses. I have an A10 which is considered a "Lower end" entry level processor and it has MORE than enough power for me.

Exactly. In fact, I built my GF a new rig that included the a10 5800k paired with some DDR3 2133 memory, and for the price of that APU, I was really impressed with it's performance. I look forward to see what console makers can do with some more up to date hardware

It IS faster than Xbox360 and PS3.
If you think processor speed in MHZ/GHZ is all you need to worry about you are dead wrong.

A core i7 @ 1Ghz is faster than a P4 @ 4Ghz

EXAMPLE: an amd 3800+ ran at 2.2 GHZ, but was equivalent processing power wise to a P4 @ 3.8GHZ thats where AMD came up with its original processor naming scheme

I built a A6-3850 system for my younger brother and was quiet impressed. I then built an A8-5600K system for a buddy of mine and was even more impressed. So what did I do? Buy myself parts for an A10 5800K + Hybrid crossfire build. I am very satisfied with the performance. I had a Core i7 3820 and I can't tell a difference between the performance of the two rigs with general use. I don't encode/render videos all the time but even if I did the difference is generally about 30 seconds faster w/ the Core i7 (according to benchmarks) and that's not horribly long. The Hybrid Crossfire works really well - I just think it's odd that you run your monitor via the on-board graphics slot rather than the dedicated video cards HDMI/DVI/Displayport.

Now I just need to mess w/ my Samsung RAM a little more and try to crank out 2000MHZ. It shouldn't be an issue since I am running 1866 @ 10-10-10-29 @ 1.35v right now. I could probably keep the same timings and jump the voltage to about 1.5v.

Of course it is. People are complaining just to complain. The Wii U will be able to handle games for years to come and is currently the fastest and most advanced gaming console right now.

Guys my point wasn't that dual graphics apu specs were bad. It was that the WIi U specs will be multiple generations behind the dual graphics consoles. Due to the ever increasing likelihood of the Xbox/PS4 using newer process tech with each passing day.

You are probably right in that respect, but who cares regarding the Wii U? Not in a rude way I mean, but in the sense of it never being intended to compete in a horsepower war. If it's even slightly better than 360/ps3, then Nintendo has done their parts to make money, and they will.

Know the number one reason why? First party support. You will not see a Mario on a ps4 or xbox. So just getting the Nintendo characters into HD is a big enough jump as is for those games.

Can you honestly say this looks bad?

It was a tech demo they whipped together very quickly for E3 in 2011..

Some things to consider before saying anything about the CPU.

  • The cores are a very different architecture than the PPE style cores. Among other things they have OoE, shorter pipeline and a larger and different instruction set.
  • Also the sound, while not a huge part of the processing, is handled by a DSP, freeing up even more resources.
  • The cache is much larger.

This means that the CPU is good at doing all of the non vector/SIMD stuff, leaving that to the GPU.

The CPU could well be as powerfull or more at what it is designated to do, than the equivalent in PS3 or 360.

It bears repeating because some people still don't seem to get it: Number of cycles/hz is not a very useful way of comparing architectures that are not very similar.

Also high clockrates are one of the chief reasons for heat.
The lower clockrate you can have while maintaining performance the better.
You'll need less cooling hardware. Have less noise. Have a system that lasts longer and has fewer failures. Etc.

The fact they its being compared to 360 its bad news. 360 is already 7 years old. Thats too much for tech world.

I wager you will be wrong.

The Wii U can handle 360/PS3 ports. But after the next gens come out, most likely next Christmas, the Wii U is going to be in the same position as the Wii was in this generation.

Then Nintendo should rejoice considering how much money that position made them thumb.gif

LOL no way in hell!!

The Wii used almost the same hardware that the GC did.

The Wii U is easily 10 times more powerful than that.
