Help! computer turns off when playing stuff

Hi, got a bit of a problem, the past 3 days when playing Star Wars the Old Republic or Star Trek online (don't judge! tongue.gif) my computer will randomly shut off and restart. My rig is a 2500k was overclocked I set it to default clocks to see if that was causing it, it didn't change. A gtx 560 ti (at stock clocks) when playing its around 65c, so I think that is fine? Funny thing is when playing other things such as Chivalry: Medieval Warfare my computer is fine. Same with Deus Ex: HR, Minecraft, tf2, etc. The power supply itself is a rosewill 700 something watt PSU, its about 3 years old now. So yeah a bit worried and a bit bored. Any help/advice would be awesome!

Edit: Forgot to add that realtemp reports 39c max temp when playing which I think is fine?

Have you tried pulling the GPU, and seeing if that does anything? Or if it was happening all the time not just with those 2 I'd say pull everything out of the case and see if something had fallen in and was shorting things

How long before it shuts off, and is it consistent every time?

Do you get any errors?... download memtest and run it, see if you get any errors.

it is consistent on those games, when it will happen? hard to say, its random. I haven't tried pulling the card out, I'll try that now.

an I'll try running memtest.

Have you seen any error messages prior to it rebooting? does it bluescreen? You can turn off automatic reboot which should allow you to at least capture an error message if there is one.

I was first going to point my finger at heat being an issue, but the 65C you mentioned is very cool in terms of gaming. Could be your power supply on the fritz; how much voltage does it deliver on the +12V rails?

May be time to consider a new one

No blue screen just a quick reboot. I did turn that off before asking for help here.

On the side of the power supply, you should see a chart that lists the number of amps delivered through certain voltages

e.g.

I see it, but what am I looking for? On a side note, I tested a theory of mine out, I lowered the video settings of the games that would restart my system, long story short it doesn't seem to be restarting anymore. My logic is because the video card isn't needing to draw more power out of my PSU it's staying on. Not sure if that makes sense but there you go. thumb.gif
