GTX470 flatlining at 99C Planet Side 2 Game only

Thread Starter
Hello-

I got an interesting problem....

GTX470 housed in a well cooled HAF 932 case, sits near a window, fairly cool in the room. GPU idles at around 40C. Most games/apps it will spike to 70's, A New Dawn the NVIDIA tech demo it sits around 82C. Planet Side 2, a game, it automatically jumps to 99C and stays there, doesn't budge. Stock cooling and fan is on 100 using MSI afterburner. Any ideas?

Have you tried applying new thermal paste? If new paste doesn't fix it and the cooler isn't having contact issues (something blocking it from being screwed all the way down) then the cooler itself might be defective or dusty.

Blower style coolers can get very dusty and the thermal paste on 470s wasn't applied well in many cases so I'd say take the cooler off, dust it and replace the paste.

Don't expect very good temperatures but hitting 100C is too high, I think mine was at around 80-85C when folding.
