Really blinksmiley.gif ?

I use my router's firewall. Isn't that better than a software firewall ?

You want layered security. A router firewall does nothing except protect intrusions entering your local network. It won't do anything for say, an infected USB.

Legitimate sites are compromised all the time. Anandtech was and apparently OCN, too. In this case, "safe" browsing will not save you.

What can you lose by installing AV? I just dont understand some people. I personally use Avast, but I put ZoneAlarm based on this article to try it out on my father's macbook pro running windows 8. Out of hte box, Avast causes BSOD on Windows 8 as of this posting necessitating replacing an avast system driver.

I always laugh at the people that think they cant catch anything by using "safe browsing" with no protection at all installed. Then when they do get infected or notice weird charges on their bank account, and tell me they think have been hit with a virus which I can say I told you so to them.

Not to mention there are corporate AVs out there, which are FAR better than any consumer AVs out there.

Agreed with this, that is the best independent AV testers out there. Boss wants me to read through this http://www.av-comparatives.org/images/docs/avc_cor_201209_en.pdf by the end of the week to determine what the best security solution is for a section of the hospital.

Been running without anti-virus now for about 6 months. Just did a scan with Malwarebytes. Didn't find anything at all. I must suck at getting malware.. frown.gif Believe me, I've tried..

Pretty much this, layered security is the best security instead of relying on one piece of software for everything.

Malwarebytes can't be used alone to determine if you're in infected or not, try some of the other stuff chinesekiwi has posted.

mmmmm..... I see there's a "budget constraint" if he wants a report by the end of the week ROFL. ICT consultants get paid for a reason and for a complex solution like a hospital, you'd better damn use one.

I get this horrible déjà vu every time I hear this phrase. It means shortcuts are about to be taken to finish something that was meant to be done 6 months ago.

Panda Cloud =slow scanning. Uses 80% of one core.. Installer asked if I wanted to install a toolbar and set my start page to My Start.. Both malware of sorts. wink.gif
Heck, I should do a review of all anti-virus programs. rolleyes.gif
