If this angular look you're talking about is this:

http://www.msi.com/product/vga/R7970-2PMD3GD5-OC.html

That model was available already in January, so MSI would have had to do the cheapened PCB really fast. Then there is this:

http://hardforum.com/showpost.php?p=1038366712&postcount=36

That is an email from MSI stating that the card in question is "based on reference design by AMD".

Yes, based on reference design. Which is what a reference design is for: to be the basis for AIB partners willing to follow the reference design.

I'm not saying it is 100% reference. I'm just saying that until shown otherwise, MSI saying it is reference is what I consider the most likely truth.

I would be really surprised if it was voltage locked. Not saying it for sure, but let's say 99%... I'd go for it! In fact, I already have two. biggrin.gif

Well, I ordered it. The box for the the model number I ordered says "World's first gpu voltage control" as a selling point, so, here's hoping.

Got mine not too long ago, it's not voltage locked. OC's pretty well on air. Can't wait to put my blocks on them. Just finally had some time to test them all before putting blocks on them.
