Blunt honesty? No, it is not worth it.

The 7970 Ghz is simply a 7970 OC'd to 1050Mhz, nothing more. Since most 7970s will OC to 1200 on stock cooling anyway... You could have saved about $50 by just getting a regular 7970.

Is the card itself good? Yes. A 7970 Ghz will go toe to toe with, and beat, a GTX 680. The latest 12.11 drivers just make it all the better, and frankly, XFX's cards are beautiful. It's just not very good on the price vs performance front.

I would have to agree with this guy.

I would've personally bought a regular 7970 that had decent stock cooling and saved the extra bucks lol.... But still its a good card.
Small wonder.

couple of options

the sapphire HD 7970 OC (1 Ghz) costs 400 (380 after rebate) . the dual x cooler is better than xfx dd. keeps the card cooler when overclocking. so if you can change the order it might be worth it.

http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814202008

the other is to get a reference MSI HD 7970 . costs 330 bucks (300 after mail in rebate) . out of stock unfortunately. so wait for it to come back and get it. slap an accelero xtreme 7970 cooler and voltage overclock it .

http://ncix.ca/products/?sku=67605&promoid=1310
http://ncix.ca/products/?sku=70122

330 + 85 = 415. (385 after mail in rebate)

Is XFX's PCB build quality any good?

See, that's a good question.

I own... 4 XFX cards at this point. A 5570, 5770, 6870, and 6970. Not one card has failed me, or even done anything to make me mad at it, and if they ever die, I have a lovely warranty for them all.

On the other hand, my XFX 6870 and 6970 do not OC very far. My 6970 is only capable of going to 940/1540, even after raising voltage to 1.2v.

Is the PCB good? Ya, I guess, it doesn't die on you. Will it be the absolute best thing ever and beat out a Lightning? Not a chance.

Things to remember when buying AMD cards:

XFX: Warranty
ASUS: Cooling
Gigabyte: Thick PCB
Sapphire: Best chips
MSI: Lightning. 'nuff said.
