[PROJECT] Little Guys' Little PC

Hey OCN!

So some of you may have seen me around (probably not, I occasionaly come out of the shadows to ask dumb questions), otherwise let me introduce myself.
Here, my name is crackers and I'm from down under! thumb.gif

THE IDEA
Everybody wants to see their mums happy. Unfortunately for my mother, she spends hours on a netbook trying to do her work on there.
So I'm doing what any good son would do, and am building her a decent PC to use! rolleyes.gif

This is not an over the top build.
I'm aiming for the opposite. I want to hopefully show people you can have a nice clean build without a wealth of knowledge and without throwing money at your screen.
Then again this could turn out awfully and turn everyone off, but whatever!
The main thing I will be focusing on is the case, I have little modding ability, limited funds and limited tools to work with.

My budget for this build - $450au.

THE GEAR
I don't have a lot of disposable income as a trainee estimator/CNC programmer, so here are the goods I'll be using.

• AMD A10 5800K
• ASRock FM2A75M-DGS
• Modified CM Centurion B541 Case - Recycled
• Paracorded Silverstone Strider 500W ST50F-ES - Paracord is recycled.
• Corsair Vengeance RAM 4GB
• OCZ Agility 3 SSD 60GB
• Seagate Barracuda 320GB - Recycled.
• Recycled Acrylic

= $374. tongue.gif I'm recycling the case, which is a crappy broken case I dismantled a long time ago for no good reason. I'm recycling a HDD which a lot of you should have.
The only other thing is the stainless steel, which I acquired out of a scrap bin at my work. Nothing fancy.

This log is just a little guy makin' a little pc. smile.gif

Nice! I did the same for my parents. Of course they only use it for Netflix and shopping on ebay but still they were happy lol.

Reserved. I will be keeping all the updates in this post to keep things clean. smile.gif
edit: I need to learn to refresh my page more often! I guess you can have second post Dirkonis thumb.gif

Update: Here are a few dodgy Iphone pictures of the carnage that I'm dealing with.

Deliberating..

I'm borrowing my girlfriends DSLR for the rest, not that I can take a good photo to save myself anyways! thumb.gif

Got some work done today! Headed to the reverse garbage shop, got some acrylic and started cutting!

After some initial trouble and a cracked handle later, we had our front plate cut and ready for filing.

Look what I got for $4 from the recycling shop!

Is that white? Whats under the other? wink.gif

After some filing it was time to check out my score from the scrap bin at work. Peeling the cover away..

Ohh shiny. Might need some polishing later.

Cutting the white acrylic. I don't know how this will turn out, but hopefully good! I'll keep this as a surprise..

Measuring the window, and yes I'm going to use the two tiny pieces together. I didn't have cash to buy a big solid piece, and who can say no to a $2 window!

All measured and prepped to cut - so glad these 80mm grills are going!

That's all till next time!

Parts are onboard with the driver! I will be reviewing + benching them as well.

Edit: UGH. PSU seems to be DOA. Won't power the motherboard, won't power a fan and LED when I jump it.. Going to test with my main AX850 shortly to make sure I'm not making a silly mistake.

I need some sleep x_________x

Edit 2: Yep. PSU is dead. Going to send it back tomorrow, will see how we go! At least the system works! rolleyes.gif

Here's a dead PSU, attempting to power my temporary setup.

That was a fail. Checking with my AX850, I'm not ruining my baby for this one, so I'll just poke the cables out the back.

Hey it works! There's my PC in the back, and my wonderful new blank keycaps on my Corsair K60. thumb.gif

Update coming tonight thumb.gif

Panels are mostly painted, just a few left, some cutting, drilling, etc.

Stay tuned! Yes, I'm aware I have no subs haha.

Edit: Uhhh! Filed and painted away, but by the time I was done it was pitch black. thumbsdownsmileyanim.gif

Here's an awful picture to buy me some time with the update.

Little update - been busy these past few days with studying. The only nice thing about no subs is there's no pressure to keep the updates coming! thumb.gif

Side window came out okay - considering I have no experience with a jigsaw. This will be rubber u-channeled before my $2 acrylic window goes in. biggrin.gif

Artsy RAM shot. With an Iphone - it's not quite the same tbh.

My motherboard on my painted tray. Notice the gross stock wires?

Sleeved! I was going to paracord the whole lot together, but I didn't like how it looked. Seemed kind of.. wierd? I then tried to use 1/16 white for all 4 wires.. but I ran out!
So I settled for two 1/16", one 1/8", and a paracord 550. To be honest, when I put the random bits of sleeve together, it really signifies what this build is all about to me. smile.gif
