4600 Overclocking

Thread Starter
Well after lurking around her for a few months and getting to understand the process of overclocking, I think I'm ready to see what this processor can do.
Right now it's cooled by air (92mm 110 cfm), but I do plan to go water cooling after income tax time.

A few questions:
1. How well will the 4600 o.c.?
2. Does anyone have any experience with this processor?
3. Can someone walk me through the steps?

If any information is needed let me know and I will post it.

Thank you
Bubba

Its hard for us to help you out, atleast, with the advice your looking for. In general your chip will overclock well. I think 2.6-2.7 stable is well within reach with an even mediocre chip. However, us telling you how to get there, what settings you need to be at, is alot harder. In order for our advice to be relevant we would at the very least need to have the same CPU, the same Mobo, and the same Ram. Anyways, just start overclocking! No one gets a massive OC by sitting on the forums asking for advice!

Well I would help you but the closest thing I have is a socket 939 3800+ X2 in my other gaming rig, that is stable up to 2.75 with a Big Typhoon using DDR 600.

I can however walk you through the process, basically go into your BIOS and start ramping up the HTT frequency by about 5-10MHz at a time, when you encounter instability of any kind, bump up your CPU voltage by one notch, if you're still unstable bump up your RAM voltage or your chipset voltage and see what makes you more stable, once you're stable again, keep pushing it with good cooling you should hit 3GHz+ with your 4600+

Keep us posted as to how it goes and we'll try to keep helping you.

I'm about to get a sk939 4600 soon, a friend of mine took out the 3700+'s cooling and put on his opteron's cooling in my rig, will that cool it or should I get a better one?

this is all the farther i can get with out bumping the voltage. I can't seem to find where in the bios to do that.

Well, after less than 24hrs. I got the B.S.O.D twice. I'm guessing there is no hope for this proc on this mobo.
