Need step by step guide on how to set up Raid 0 on identical SSD drives

Thread Starter
Hello, as it says above I am looking to add a second SSD to my current drive in a Raid 0 Configuration. Currently I have one 240 GB SSD running windows and my games. I have purchased a second identical drive and I have no clue how to set these up in Raid 0. Can anyone help me out or at least point me in the right direction for a step by step guide. Thank you ver much in advance for any help you can be. Below are a list of my specs in case you need to know them.

i7-2600K
2 X EVGA NVIDIA GTX 590's in SLI
ASUS Maximus IV Extreme Z motherboard
240 GB SSD for windows and games
1.5 TB HDD for storage
16 GB Hyper X RAM

Both cpu and gpu's are on their own separate cooling loops.

Thanks again in advance.

Note that setting up a RAID 0 array will require that your current drive be wiped. So if you want this sort of setup, make sure you back everything up first.

Anyway, what I'd do:

1. Secure erase old drive with GParted or a similar utility to restore it to fresh performance. (numerous guides to using this can be found with a google search).

2. Enter motherboard BIOS/UEFI setup and switch the SATA controller mode to RAID, the save, exit and power down.

3. Install second SSD, make sure both SSDs are plugged into the Intel 6Gbps SATA ports. (and optionally test SSD to make sure it works fine before doing anything else, then secure erase it as well)

4. Power up the system, and when prompted press Ctrl + I to enter the RAID ROM config.

5. Create RAID Volume -> default name is fine (or whatever), level = RAID0(stripe), Disks = select both SSDs, stripe size = 128k should be fine, capacity = deafult/max (unless you want to leave extra spare area for more consistent performance over time, in which case use something like 350GB total) -> create volume.

6. Exit the RAID ROM setup, reboot, and install Windows as you normally would.

7. At some point during the installation of your drivers and other stuff, install the newest version of the Intel Rapid Storage Technology driver.
