New here , but not to the pc world. Sabertooth question?

Been around pc's and building for years and spent most forum time over at eocf which has gone south as of late. In any case new build is in the mail which is a 965 be, sabertooth and gskill 1866 sniper 2x 4 gb ram. My question pertains to the ram mainly. I got the ram for $29 from the egg on cyber monday and was wondering if it was a good choice? Also anything new is going to fly to me as im coming from a dfi, opteron 939 build

Yes, GSKILL is a very reliable manufacturer and 1866mhz is a decent speed.

The only problem is the cpu. That cpu's memory controller will only go to 1333mhz even if you have 1866mhz ram like you do. You can consider overclocking it to perhaps 1600mhz or so if you have appropriate cooling.

After further reading I found these samsung modules that apparently do better than the gskills. they are rated at 1600mhz and can overclock well with tight timings. Do you know which ones im talking about? Because im considering returning them for the samsungs.

Yes the samsung 30nm's overclock wonderfully. I'd return them and get the samsungs if I were you.

Not to hate on AMD or anything but most of the high overclocks I've seen with the samsungs are done with intel systems since intel is made for higher ram speeds. I'm just saying I don't really know how far you could get them on an AMD system, I'll do some research.

Im basing my last statement off of compatibility issues i read up on with the gskills on the sabertooth. I ended up getting the samsungs for 34 and will return the gskills. Im sure they will clock well, but my main comcern is making sure they play nice with the asus sabertooth.
