Assassin's Creed III and dedicated PhysX card.

What's up guys, I just got Assassin's Creed III and I'm experiencing some freezing issues. Not sure what's causing it but I'm tweaking settings and all if anyone has any tips feel free but I was also curious to know how do people "dedicate" a PhysX card?

I'm running a GTX 580 with a GT 520, I'd like to use the 520 as the PhysX card (seems like a popular thing to do) but I have absolutely no idea how. Recommendations? Thanks in advance.

AFAIK Assassin's Creed 3 does not support hardware-accelerated PhysX processing. In fact, I don't even think it uses PhysX as its physics engine at all (none of the previous games in the franchise did).

Ergo ... you can't do what you're talking about doing.

Well, I should say ... you certainly can assign the 520 as your dedicated physX card via the NVCP (there's a menu option for PhysX/Surround Config, should be able to figure it out from there), but doing so will only utilize the 520 when the game itself supports hardware-based (i.e. the GPU) PhysX.

Examples of such games are the 2 Batman Arkham games, Borderlands 2, Alice: Madness Returns, Sacred 2, and Mafia 2 ... to name a few relatively recent examples of titles that support the technology.

In games that don't, the 520 will just idle and do nothing.

Also, it'll be worth testing, when you actually do run a game that supports the technology, to test performance both with and without the dedicated physX card. It's quite possible that perf would be better just using the 580 to do both rendering and physX duties, since the 520 is a pretty 'slow' card.

Gottcha', thanks for the input. Helps a ton.

Now if only I could figure out this freezing problem with AC III, it's very frustrating. :/

EDIT: For those experiencing freezing issues I have found a fix (at least for me), I read to increase stock voltage on the 580 to 1100. I did so and increase my GPU clock to 825 via Precision X, memory clock is set at 2045.

Enjoy if it works for you!
