which x2?

Thread Starter
I'm looking to get a x2 for sk939 (NO CONROE, AM2, only sk939). I was wondering which is good? I want to OC it to 2.7-2.8 at least, I've thought about the 4600 and the 4800 cause they have the highest clocked speed, I'm planning to do it on MSI K8N NEO4 Platinum with Kingston HyperX 2 gb kit memory, 480 W PSU.
also do you need to use those duel core optimizing things when you switch the CPU (I intend to reformat upon installation of the x2 CPU)
thanks in advance for the help.

the 4400 x2 is the best bet for the money...I think all of the x2's can reach 2.7 -2.8 without a problem at all, and the 4400 is the cheapest and has the 1 meg cache....whereas the 3800, 4200, and 4600 only have 512 meg of cache..

I had a 3800 x2 it hit 2.7 on stock voltage.....

You will need the AMD Dual core hotfix.. And unless you're dead set to do it you don't need to reinstall windows(looks like your already on a 939 board)You just need to pop the old processor out and put the new one in

The only CPU's that are really worth the money are the 3800 and 4400. The 3800 only has 512kb of cache and the 4400 has 1mb. I would really go for a 4400.

Or if you have a capable motherboard you could always go the opteron 165 route... that would save you some money over a 4400+

sure, I'd like to see some benchmarks. The problems is that this mobo I'm on, reviews of it says it's not a good overclocking mobo, and all I have is valueram so i'm not sure if it's true. I'll look up the prices tomorrow of all the x2s and the opty 165 and post back.

I'm not sure whats wrong with my PC, recently it just started to be very slow at startup, it usually takes a few seconds to load everything, now it takes more like 30-60 seconds. I assume the duel core hotfix is at amd's website?
