Thread Starter
I'm looking at a couple of mobo options for the FX-8350 that I just bought, there are two that are currently around $150. I've seen the Gigabtye go as low as $110. The problem is that I have never bought a Gigabyte board before, I've had Abit (AM2), MSI (AM2/AM2+), and ASRock (AM2/AM2+/AM3). And the thing is that the only board that is working with my Phenom II 940 BE and my 7970 is the board that no longer has a company (Abit). I lost the MSI board to a small power outage problem. And the ASRock board died when I replaced the 6870 with the 7970, and that's ALL I did. So I'd like a board that isn't going to crap out when replacing a graphics card. I like ASUS a lot but I have heard wishy-washy things about the new ASUS boards because of the change in manufacturing. Any suggestions?

I don't think you'll go wrong with a Gigabyte UD3 or the Sabertooth. But if you're gonna spend that much money on a Sabertooth you might as well consider the Gigabyte UD7. Both good motherboards though. I don't know much about the one you mentioned in the middle.

My vote goes for the Gigabyte UD3 they are great boards with quality components such as VRM's. Mind you Asus generally doesnt skimp on components as well tho IMO the Sabertooth is overrated and over priced. The ASUS M5A99FX PRO is not a bad board if you can get past the color lol

All three boards are great. The UD3 is the best bang for the buck and the Sabertooth has the best warranty which is 5 years, the other two have three years. Personally, if you are only going to run one GPU, wait till the UD3 goes back on sale (which will probably be soon) and grab it, otherwise look for a used board. The Sabertooth can be had for under $150 used and the warranty is serial number based. Also, keep an eye out for OB on Newegg and you might find a good deal there. Either way, I don't think you could go wrong with any of those boards. One thing on the UD3, get a Rev 1.1 or higher, new won't be an issue, but if you find one used, make sure it is Rev 1.1 or higher. For the Vishera you want LLC and that only comes on the 1.1 or higher Gigabyte boards. The other two have it, so it won't matter used or new.

I have found that ASUS doesn't support their hgh end boards for the lenght of the warranty period anyway so anyhting more than 2 years is a waste as a reason to buy the mobo, the chipsets change every 18 months, the processors change every 14 months, and the video cards every 12 months. 90% upgrade everything witin those periods.
I have ASUS, GigaByte, and ASRock mobos and the GigaByte GA-990FXA-UD5 is by far the very best board for the FX processors and has room for more upgrades than 99% of the users will every need. It is very easy to Overclock and extremely stable. I have a FX-8350 running in a Crosshair IV Extreme @ 5.35Ghz and it is the only ASUS mobo I would ever use, I won't buy ASUS again.
