AMD hasn't been optimized for a long time ; I'm not sure if it ever was optimized...

Yes, the 6xx series was made on a different architecture that doesn't benefit folding as much as the previous generations

Mine came with digital copies of Assassins Creed 3 and Borderlands 2. I'm not super interested in either, so I might do something similar. Perhaps organize a trade or two on steam.
