Benefits of Android - Page 5

I love my iphone, I have a 4 and my wife has a 4s. I personally don't need or really even want to customize it a whole lot, it is a phone after all. But if customization is what you are after definitely go for an android based phone, iphones have limited customization even with jailbreaking. But if you want a phone that works great at what it does and does it with simplicity get another iphone.

Better options: i havent really read much other phones but the 8X but that doesnt really help u here. One phone i know for sure is better than the S3 for android is the Note 2 but like u said u want portability so thats also out. Maybe someone cud input on the Xperia T and Optimus G.

Through my extensive research the last few months of doing the same thing as OP, I learned a bit about these phones.

LG OG-- is a powerhouse of a phone. It is the beast in the android world right now. S4 Pro (quad core) Adreno 320 graphics, 1280x768 IPS, spec sheet wise, it is "THE" android phone out atm.
All the many reviews I read stated how great the phone was. The liked the newer LG skin, the speed of the phone was awesome, and the feel of the phone was good (has a glass covered back as well). The main hesitation I had on the phone, was the support. LG locks their boot loader and their support down the road has been spotty at best. This is the exact reason I left Moto and my Atrix. Otherwise I would likely be holding a Optimus G now instead of a 920.

Xperia T-- is a good phone. I really, really liked this phone. The camera is good, but not as good as you would think it to be having a 13mp camera, in comparison with everyone else's 8mp camera. The feel of the phone, IMO is awesome. There is descent 3rd part support for the Sony phones. This phone, even though it essentially has the same hardware as the GS3 minus a full gig of RAM) tested faster than the GS3 in most of the test results I saw. The big downfall to this phone, was battery life. That is the only thing that kept me from getting this phone. Sony had it on their website with an upgrade through AT&T for 1 penny on Black Friday. Really liked the phone. I liked the keyboard typing on it better than the LG, and the feel of it as well. The battery life is way below average from what I have read and heard though (rated 20-40% lower than most every other smartphone)

I hope that helps you out, as far as those go. if I had to choose between the GS3, OG, and Xperia T.....I would go for the OG. With it being such a big popular phone right now, and they have already cracked the boot loader, I would place my money on it. it has the hardware to easily last you 3 years and LG said they will release JB on it in the coming months.

FWIW, there you go lol

I loved customising my Androids, right up until the point I realised the widgets and such weren't worth the battery drain.

Is it worth waiting an undetermined amount of time for the Nexus 4? Does the quad core on the N4 make much of a difference when compared to the S3?

Undetermined amount being around a month? It is really up to you. The biggest difference will be the price since you can go off contract with this device. I have no clue about Ontario but depending on where you live in the states you could save a pretty large chunk of change by going with the N4 over the SGS3.

Did I forget that is still has a tiny screen compared to the rest? And it's supposed to be the best thing there is. Doesn't have NFC.. Google wallet?(Not sure on this one) The fact that they basically rape anyone who wants to develop for them AND other platforms.

Unlike apple, you get choices with android. Samsung wants you to think that it owns every android but that isn't the truth. Verizon would love for you to think that every android was a droid. The SGS3 isn't the best android device anymore.
I wouldn't care if the iphone was 1,000 times faster than my current android device because I still wouldn't use it. Even if all the bugs were fixed. I'd still prefer the open design and phone choices of android. All I expect out of my phones is to run the apps I wish for them to run and give me a nice display in which to stare at.
Before android came along I was a windows mobile fan up until 7.0 when Microsoft went all Apple on us with the features. I would love to have more open systems beyond android to choose from when picking my next device.

For the Nexus 4, there is an LTE chip but its jsut disabled. I am sure there is a way of reenabling it. My friend Citra told me of it but i forget doh.gif
Combined with the quad core the Nexus 4 has over the S3 dual core (remember, North American version is only dual core cuz of the LTE chip), I think the Nexus 4 is probably very good. Plus its cheap for unlocked.

I'm not buying an unlocked phone, so N4 wouldn't be any cheaper.

Bell does not have the Nexus 4 yet. Heck I dont think any carrier in Canada has the Nexus 4. But at $350 unlocked, jeez thats just a steal.... In all honesty, I dont think the Nexus 4 will be going to any carrier. Its such a hot phone right now, yet no carrier, even the major ones dont have it yet..... U could of course check this with Bell if they will be getting the Nexus 4.

Either way the Nexus 4 is a beast for its unlocked price.

Disregarding price, is the Nexus 4 any better than the S3? Which would be more future proof?
