Random Reboots driving me nuts

Thread Starter
Hey guys, was hoping you could help me out with this. My comp reboots randomly intermittantly. Sometimes when im in a game, sometimes when i'm browsing the internet, sometimes when i've left it there for a while i'll come back and find that it has just rebooted itself. sometimes i shut it down only to have it power itself on again almost instantly. anyone have any suggestions? i'm seriously considering mobo issues. i've got an MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum SLI. thanks

Sounds to me like its a psu issue, when a computer reboots w/o a bsod that usually points to the psu giving out. I would try the normal battery of tests to check for hardware stability, prime95, memtest86, etc, etc. Also, monitor your temps and make sure your CPU is overheating.

whatsup, welcome to the site, anyways I had the same problem, I fixed mine because i had software corruption because my video card drivers were corrupt or messed up so after i deleted it, voila problem solved, you should try it, delete it then post back and tell us the results.

A rare posibility...
Disconnect the case on/off switch and manually jump the 2 MB pins. If it goes away you either have a bumb switch or the case button is sticking.

I have the same problem, I have almost the same mobo as you have. I still have not found a fix for this. I am going to rid of the mobo and psu tho... hope that this will fix it

I had a prob like this once. Turned out somewhere along the line one of the pins in my MB power cable had receded into the plug a little. I think I bent the cable at too sharp and angle. I had to pull that pin, bend the catch, and reinsert it. Bottom line is make sure the board is getting contact with all the pins it's supposed to.

Can you give us some of the systems pathology? When you built it, when this issue first began. Any new components or software added since the issue began, etc.

Thanks,

R

either psu or could be your jumpers shorting ; dust?

could be something on the mobo in theory though. I suggest cleaning the contacts for the switches on your board and if possible test another psu

it is very unlikely a PSU problem, i had thought it was my psu giving out before, i was running on an antec smartpower 450 Watts, i just upped to an OCZ gameXstream 700Watt 3 weeks ago. Prime95 runs for a little over 10 hours before encountering an error. and how do i monitor my CPU temp? i mean other than going into the bios. i'll reinstall the video drivers. (XFX geforce 7800GT OCed with rivatuner), will give the switches a check too, will unplug the power and reset switch and start comp by shorting the thingies.
