AMD FX 8150 Core Performance Boost

Thread Starter
Why in the world does my prosessor only go to 3.9 ghz core boost when its set to 4.2!!!!!!

I downloaded AMD Overdrive just to see what the problem was and all i found out was that the core boost is actually set to x19 multiplier and i can set it up to the 4.2 ghz but nomatter what i do it always starts at 3.9!!!

Is there a way to perminately set the core boost to 4.2 or higher?

Overclock using the Bios, not a programn. Turn off all OD/OC programns first and then get to it. If you don't know how, learn by reading and doing. thumb.gif

I know that. I can use the bios but it has no option to change the i guess you can call it secondary turbo boost clock speed and it is already set to 4.2 in the bios. but when i boot into windows it changes back to x19 and only goes up to 3.9 ghz turbo boost.

It is design this way. First boost is with 8 cores and the second is with 4 cores.

Yes that may be true but that does not change the ghz speed of the cores.

No matter what features i turn off it still does it. Even if i overclock the turbo boost to like 4.5 it stays at 3.9!

What motherboard are you having ?!

My 4100 FX has a 3,8 Ghz boost and it never reaches it under W7 with or without patches. It only did it in XP 32 bit smile.gif .In XP i ve also seen the first turbo boost kicking in.

If you try to use the boost as an overclock it wont work. The modified value it s simply ignored.

So set the CPU clock to 4,2 or whatever and let CnQ on.In this way CPU will clock for the load acordingly with a top of 4,2.If it doesn hit it in this way change the motherboard. There are a lot of useless AM3 + boards on market regarding FX usability.

Maybe in your case some thermal throttling kicks in CPU APM management or VRM overheating.

I know what your saying about overclocking it with the multiplier but my comp gets way to hot and i can reach 4.4 easily with turbo boost with a 70 point gain in novabench.

like i said i can make it go to 4.2 when i go to amd overdrive program and actually set it in there but when i restart the comp its back to 3.9.

I really dont know whats going on with this chip but i really wish it would work properly its very frustrating i may just call amd because im really frustrated.

Turboboost should only kick in when gaming or doing heavy cpu heavy activities.

joshontech, probably you might have done this already, but still i will ask !

Have you turned core parking off ?

if not give it a try
