The Age of Graphics Card, IF always Overclocked when Gaming?

Thread Starter
hello folks

I want to know about your experience, based on it, how long the graphics card can survive, IF Always Overclocked when gaming? I know it's random, that's why I said based on your experience.

Thanks,
Overclocking your GPU with NO Volts increase will Not change the Life-span of it.

Really, as long as your system is balanced and no bottlenecks you dont need to overclock anything. People do becuase they want the best gaming experience than can achieve or to get the most out of cheaper parts. Most parts with mild overclocks, good voltages and temps will for the most part last a decent amount of time even if stress a lot. Even long enough to be able to re sell. IMO smile.gif

hmm, I have a Kepler GPU, (Gigabyte Windforce).., and sometimes I overclock it on gaming to test and prepare for the next game..., AFAIK on february 2013 Crysis 3 will be launched....and IF my Card are not enough to get constant 50 - 60 fps, I plan to overclock it every time I play that game...does it safe? I mean at least survive for 2 -3 years.

Had a pair of 5870s that were overclocked full time until I sold them a year ago.

part of the reason why people overclock because they want nice FPS.. it is safe to overclock and your card will or i should survive, just dont go to the extreme, safe overclocking is fine and just like a CPU stress test your card. Crysis is actually a good stress test. also set profiles so have your card at stock for general use and an overclocked profile for your game play.

overclocked or not any component can die.

does 1250 (sometimes 1277) are safe for Kepler on gaming?

yup I only overclocked my card at the game which I can not run at 50 - 60 FPS constant, for general use Of course I will use stock settings.
Just like a CPU, if you can do 1250 without pushing high voltages to do it i will say ok. also as long as cooling is sufficient as well. On my tahiti i like to stay under 1.2v but thats just me even if it means i run at 1125 - 1150 core. I am sure other users will have different opinions and will also run their cards at over 1.2V as well as experience with kepler cards. You now have me interested in if i should push my card further as well lol

My 670's will go up to 1200mhz all on their own with the built in boost clock. Temps are mid 60's usually with the stock cooler that the evga GTX 670 FTW edition cards come with. I don't feel the need to OC any further past that currently. By the time it will be warranted I'll probably just upgrade the GPU thumb.gif

But if you are needing the OC's to achieve decent frame rates in your desired games then there is nothing wrong with OC'ing your card. Just like a CPU I think you just have to be conscious of voltage and temperature. Having both of those at high levels will degrade your cards and or kill them. If you maintain reasonable temperatures, which with kepler GPU's is <70C you should be fine. If you experience artifacting or BSOD's you may need to take it down a bit and keep on tweaking. I'm not sure exactly if there is a 'safe' voltage for GPU's beyond their stock voltage--it probably varies.
