Deciding on upgrade, stuck on models!

Thread Starter
Currently my computer has an EVGA GTX 550ti FPB. It's really great in most games. I was lucky enough to pretty much get a cherry-picked 3570k that runs stable 4.5GHz with only +0.03 Vcore, so I can consistently get 40-60 fps on high-max settings in 1080p with anti-aliasing turned off with most games. However in some games (particularly MMOs like Tera, FFXIV, and GW2) I drop down pretty low when I'm around a lot of other players or there's a lot going on. I think I could also use an improvement in performance while recording with fraps/xsplit streaming etc. Now I'm trying to decide on which graphics card to upgrade to, so I can get at least 55FPS in Guild Wars 2 with maxed settings and anti-aliasing turned on. (If I can do that, I can pretty much guarantee any other game will do just fine too) It's been a hard choice for me as I save up for this. The plain jane GTX660 is out of the question.

The games I play that I want 60fps in with max settings and possibly antialiasing: League of Legends (while recording in FRAPS), Guild Wars 2, Tera Online, Final Fantasy XIV.
My budget is around $360 for now. I could always save a little more, but doesn't seem necessary considering my minimalistic needs.

Tearing my hair out, I decided to write down the following considerations (can you tell I like EVGA?):
EVGA GTX 660TI: Seems like the baseline 1080p performance card that'll most likely do anything I ask of it
EVGA GTX 660TI "Superclocked": Pay a little more for factory overclock, but AFAIK unnoticeable to marginal performance increase
EVGA GTX 660TI "Superclocked" FTW+: ??? I have seen this around somewhere~ ???
EVGA GTX 670: Meet all my performance expectations, but a little out of my budget
EVGA GTX 670 FTW: Meet my demands and more, possibly wasting money at this point but won't have to upgrade for a long time
EVGA GTX 670 "Superclocked+": ....? ^^^^^^^

Really having a tough time deciding, especially since beyond these few models there's several submodels with different coolers/base clocks/etc.

Frankly though, if I can't decide within any reasonable time frame I"m probably going to end up splurging and getting a completely unnecessary GTX 680 classified edition and getting a new monitor. >.> (Not really something I want to waste money on, but Christmas is coming up and I have a spending addiction, and $550 could burn a hole in my pocket faster than a pissed off pyrotechnician)

I personaly feel the 660TI is over priced (as well as all the new 6 series cards) but the better value 6 series card is the 670 and with EVGA being of the better for warranty, I would go for the FTW 670.

If the choice is the only one which you listed above, pick an EVGA GTX 670 FTW.thumb.gif

Looks like GTX670FTW it is. What's the difference between it and the 670 "Superclocked"? :x

Also I was concerned about power, is the card going to run fine on my 600W Corsair CX600 PSU? I'm not sure about anything to do with 12v rails other than there being a single one. :x

Not sure on why the FTW but from other users, they have bigged it up. That PSU is perfect for any single GPU smile.gif

Superclocked = factory OC.
Don't get your hopes for MMO's tho.

Post your CPU question in PSU section and you will get best answer.

600W is plenty of power for your system with a GTX 670. I'm not sure why you'd pay extra for the FTW card though - either get a plain reference card or get one with a custom cooler. You can easily overclock a standard card to FTW speeds, so there is really no reason to pay extra for it.

I read somewhere that the FTW card also has a better VRM, which probably won't have much purpose for me unless I plan on overclocking the card heavily.

Why do you say not to get my hopes up on MMOs? Are they always going to run like poo? tongue.gif

I stupidly decided on a 660ti out of impatience, and wasn't entirely satisfied. So to compensate for my shameful display I returned it 2 weeks later and grabbed a gtx680. Best investment ever! smile.gif

Have a photo of my terrible cable management and lighting!

I suppose now that I have some nice performance parts in my PC I should work on reorganizing the case and getting some matching colored fans and maybe doing some other aesthetic surgery.
