Hmm if the cx 500 is that bad for 30 bucks then this is the next best deal http://www.amazon.com/Rosewill-Series-Certified-ATX12V-RG530-S12/dp/B004GL4UZK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1354491843&sr=8-1&keywords=rosewill+green+530

@OP, look for a PCP&C Silencer MKIII, XFX Core series, OCZ ZS, Rosewill Green or Hive series... you should be able to find some of the units inside your budget.

What's bad about it. I know it's not an amazing unit by any stretch, but why would it be bad for OP when their build won't be drawing anywhere near full load? The only review I've seen for it is the Playwares review and it seems like a decent unit. I'd grab the Antec or Enermax over it in a heartbeat and would grab one of the units you recommended over it, but I haven't seen any but the Green series dip to $50 in a little while now. The MkIII was hitting that price pretty consistently, but hasn't been there for about a month.

It's overrated, and it's inferior to competing units (like the Green series mentioned above, the EarthWatts from Antec, etc).

When you say overrated, do you mean overrated as in people make it sound better than it is (which is true of most Corsair PSUs) or do you mean that the wattage is overrated?

Thanks. I usually recommend other PSUs over it since I know there are much better options (like the Hive, HCG/HCG-M, Silencer Mk.III, Capstone, etc), but OP's $50 limit kind of put a halt to the recommendations I normally give.

Overrated as in not a true 500W unit by current standards. (check the ratings on the power distribution sticker).. as for the units you've listed, all superior choices and I'm confident he find at least some of them at his desired price point if he shops around a bit.
