Case shorting out motherboard

Thread Starter
I've put my computer in a few different cases but this R4 case has really been a pain on getting the computer to work. The motherboard keeps shorting out and half the time wont' even boot until I take it out and lay it on a box. Im thinking I need some rubber washers for the standoffs and I was wondering where can i get them.

ive experienced this problem in the past you can fix it by gluing thinly cut peices of a pencil eraser to the motherboard tray in your case

Or even simpler method is to use pieces of polythene behind the motherboard while attaching it to the case !

Remember the anti static polythene cover which comes with your motherboard, you can even use that behind the mobo, i mean while laying down the cabinet
1) Put the anti static polythene or any similar non conductive polythene for that matter of fact on to the area where the motherboard is to be fitted in the case.
2) Put the motherboard on and force the screws through the polythene and fasten your motherboard to the case, and its done.

I used this method for a friend with static/shorting problem and his problem was solved, though wait for more opinions on this matter ! smile.gif

ok , this happend to me , but with a CM case :

try to figure out where does the "ground" is occuring . mine was the the front panel , those soldering pointy things at the back of the pcb pierce a USB cable and that was the problem , the solution was disconnecting the USB header ;_; and miss those ports in the front

maybe disconnecting everything fron the front panel like HDD LED , POWER SW RESET SW POWER LED , all the headers like eSATA and USBs , and turning the motherboard with one of those vandal switches .. trial and error each to see if it loads up

at least thats what i did in my case and maybe it could help you

Well I didn't have my front io connected at all. Only thing that I didn't do that I normally do was have those little washers for my motherboard. It ran long enough for windows to install and then it would stay on for a few mins then shut down. Then I would have to turn the power off from the motherboard and turn it back on before it would start up again then it normally wouldn't boot until I put the motherboard on my desk. This happened to the last motherboard I had. I ended up replacing the motherboard,CPU,memory, hard drive, and went watercooling
