Audio Upgrade questions

Hi all-

So I have had my Senn HD 555's for several years now. I've been slowly upgrading some of my parts this fall and have questioned whether or not my audio setup has fallen out of date (or not).

I play FPS games competitively, so positional awareness and gaming is my main concern.

My setup is:
Sennheiser HD 555
Creative X-Fi xtrememusic

I've been looking at either the Titanium HD or the Xonar STX from Asus. Is it worth shelling out the extra cash- would I see any benefits? What about my headphones?

Any help would be appreciated... biggrin.gif

I would shell out for the titanium hd, but keep the 555s of your only concern is gaming and you're not ready to dish out more for minimal positional superiority.

Ok I figured my headphones were still pretty decent. The only thing that scares me about the Titanium HD is the driver issues (I am just about to upgrade to windows 8) as well as the apparent reliability concerns.

Any idea if any of the new Z series cards are just as good or comparable at all for gaming?

Haven't tested them yet.

I have the Titanium HD. The card works well under Windows 8. I installed the latest driver for the card, then, using the original CD, I installed everything but the original driver and Dolby/DTS encoder packs. Everything runs quite nicely.
Creative included new versions of the encoders in its latest driver.

Titanium HD and Essence ST/STX are still my two favorite sound cards, period.
