Need Help with New CAD Design Computer Build - Page 2

Go for dual monitors... You'll be amazed how often you'll want to look at something like a product spec (usually a pdf) and input it into CAD. All my drafting staff sort of scoffed at dual monitors thinking it was just me doing my overkill computer thing. Since they've been on it, they will not go back to anything less. You might actually want to open two drawings at once too so you can block from one drawing to the next; Easy on duals. (I've got 4 monitors btw).

Desktop space rules... bigger the better particularly as you customize menu systems and whatnots.

Oh... and lol. Architect here. I do all the office stuff on the rig (notebook) in my sig. Works like a little trooper and is portable to take to clients and work off-site without issue. I am not doing a lot of 3D stuff though (cheaper to farm that work out than do inhouse). I will do sketch-up massing studies though in 3D. Autocad, OfficePro, and Creative Suite is the primary usage.

Have you considered a notebook? Sure, the cost will be higher, but considering you may be installing $8 grand worth of software registered to a single machine..... it's cheaper than having a setup for work and one for home and one for the jobsite and messing around with license stuff. Not to mention it already has wireless, can run for a time without a plug, and is a lot more adaptable to whatever situation you may need it for. Kinda nice during the summer to work out on my deck in the sun instead of trapped in the office....

I just gotta say my eyes have been opened to PC Part Picker!
Here it is so far.
Please let me know if there is anything that i should be aware of with this build. If you see anything wrong with it or am missing something!

Base Total: $1498.12
Combo Discounts: -$15.00

He needs to open his budget little or something. SSD are single most improvement right now.

I started with one screen it was should pain only using one. (I have four now)

IMO. You need two screens and ssd in workstation in this date in and age.

Monitor 1 is the single part and firefox
Monitor 2 is the assembly of which part goes to or machining side (cam)
Monitor 3 is references/mathcad/excel
Monitor 4 is the same as 3 (if needed) or vlc player/netflix or youtube

OK I will definitely let him know. This isn't a full fledged Cad program though. And he isn't much of a multi-tasker. More of the keyboard pecking type click... click.......clickclick..... thanks for your input so far everyone!
