Are you sure your ATI drivers and everything were right witrh your 6970s? Don't take this the wrong way please, I'm just asking questions because I'm baffled.
Wow, I can't wait to test my SLI 580s when my second Matrix arrives in the mail..
I subscribe to this thread and I will post results to compare a single 680 with 2 580s.

i figured i was getting as much performance as a 6990, cause really, thats what i had. all the benchmarks i looked at showed that the 680 beat the 6990 9/10 times by 5-10%
but the biggest reason i did this was just because the games i want to play just didnt like the crossfire drivers, i could really only use one of my cards. plus ive always heard the nvidia has better drivers, so i thought id give the green team a try.

yea, its an awesome looking card no doubt. and i probably wont overclock it at all, ive had my fun with that, those days are gone... you can only get so many BOSDs and corrupt the OS so many times before it stops being fun haha...

It's a graphics card, not some New high paying job in a good town, or Faithful woman you've been married to for many years or Good investment that pays out in spades later, or house which you buy in a great location with amazing resale value later on, or moving to a new Country and getting a better life out of it... THOSE are the types of decisions worthy of being "Best decisions you've ever made"
this is a GPU. I know this sounds really weird but every time people on this site buy new toys it's "the best decision they have ever made".
Ohhh new ram "the best decision they have ever made"
Ohhh new Monitor "the best decision they have ever made"
Ohh new Mouse "the best decision they have ever made"
Ohh new Case fan "the best decision they have ever made"
i don't what type of life you'd need to live for a GPU to be the best decision you've ever made (frankly i'm not sure it's possible) but it would be quite uneventful i'd imagine.

thank you

Oh yeah, on the nvidia vs ATI thing I'm an unashamed nvida fanboy and loyalist myself (you'd think I am, with two 580s lol) so yeah, a 680 is an excellent choice in my opinion, it's just that I am extremely surprised that it outperforms TWO 6970s and by the looks of your post, checking your fps, your 680 seems top notch but I'd sware a pair of 6970s would deliver much more.

Other than that, of course I congratulate you on going nvidia, to me it's still the best GPUs and drivers.

I think it's an EVGA signature you bought if I'm not mistaken? Excellent choice. Cannot go wrong with that lol.

well, my 6970s were great... my biggest gripe was the drivers... absolute garbage... and they were SO loud!

and yup, i got the EVGA Signature 2 series GTX680 with two 80mm fans... its freaking dead quiet... now i am chasing down all the other noise in my computer that i couldnt hear before because of my 6970s haha...

plus i got it got $350 off craigslist smile.gif

Jeez, that's a hell of a good price! Wow... You're lucky living in the States for this. Here in France this card almost costs the double. So yeah it's a great choice. heck for that price, can you still find some money in your pocket to buy another one? I know if I could get those at that price I'd do everything I could to get me another $350 for a second one lol. That would be a ultimate kickass setup.
That's awesome that the card did so well. How much did you pay for it? I ask because my brother wants to build a system and I have a SLI set up with a pair of ZOTAC GeForce GTX 580's and he wants me to give him one. So I am looking around for a good card that he can get so I don't have to give up my 580's...

By the way I noticed your case looks like a Corsair 800D with some of the inside parts taken out, is it by any chance? Cause I really like the way it looks if it is and would really like to do that to mine. If it is an 800D could you by any chance give me some information on how you got the bay drives and the bottom shelf out? If its not an 800D, what kind of case is it?

I have cf 6870 in my rig atm and they beat a single 680 and I dont understand how your 6970 cf'd are performaning lower a single 680?

Maybe due to microstutter? It is a common problem appreantly with the 6000 series I notice with mine often, anyways congrats waterblock that puppy and OC the ***** out of it.

I too am going back to the green team due to bad drivers from the red team hopefully the gtx 700 series is amazing or I will stay with amd once again since apparently its just a kepler refresh which I will be disappointed if so, didnt buy 680's due to midstream and struggle on triple monitor gaming due to bit latency since this is where I am headed.
