Need help with my water cooling setup

Thread Starter
i currently have a i7 930 at 4 GHz with a full water cooling loop, and in a couple of months i'am planning to upgrade to i7 3770k (possibly 4.5ghz) and maybe a 7970.My problem is the current setup i have a XSPC EX240 Dual 120mm Low Profile Split Fin Radiator, and a X58A-UD3R GIGABYTE motherboard, and the very top heat sink on the motherboard was a very tight fit between it and the rad, they are in contact with each other, so for my new build i'am having a hard time picking a motherboard that will fit nicely in to my case with out interfering with my rad,and will be good for overclocking.

i'am on a budget of 0-200$ for a motherboard
Clean eh?

I've got a similar loop setup and having the 600T I know that its pretty tight at the top. Just a suggestion, you could swap that EX240 rad for a Hardware Labs stealth black ice 240. I think from memory they are 29.7 mm thick with a higher fin density than the EX240. With that swap you could give yourself a bit over 5mm more clearance, giving you a bit more freedom of MOBO. And if I could give you a piece of advice, get rid of those plastic clamps and get some proper metal hose clamps. A friend had a bad experience with those clamps they are not good. Anyway have fun.

Just my two cents though.

That is a good way, but im not really trying to do anything with that loop right now (only a week old), i have a couple of motherboards in mind but im not a motherboard expert, plus i need a motherboard that will handle overclocking since i would love to go to higher clocks but my core i7 930 is a fail at overclocking, putting mass amount of heat into the loop and its voltage hungry (****TY chip ).

Got my eye on this for now http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=353599&sku=G452-0144

one of the reasons is the color.

I would suggest asking the same or similar question here in the Intel Motherboard category.

As for the clamps, they are perfectly safe if used in the correct manner, but looking at your bottom pic, it looks like they are only just on sad-smiley-002.gif

I would suggest majorly and quickly either replace with better fitting clamps or tighten them more. Otherwise you may need more then a new MB wink.gif

I know its weird, i screwed up on my order and i had gotten 1/2 clamps instead of 3/4 ( my tubing od is 3/4) i called frozen cpu and told them that i made a mistake they went ahead and changed it, i even saw it on the invoice that was in the package, that i was crossed out and put 3/4 inch, i got the package and i put the clamps on the tubing just to make sure and it was a tight fit a couple of clicks im like ok, then i started to attach tubing on the fittings and i only got 2 clicks out of it,

system has been running for for a while now

Cut the top of your case allowing for an offset mounting of the radiator.
