Just pulled the trigger on on 7850, opinions and thoughts?

Personally I think it's a steal. After fruitless weeks of scouring Newegg, Shopper, Amazon, here and various other places (and watching my cash put aside for a new card slowly trickle away into X-mas gifts) I finally found exactly what I was looking for on Ebay of all places, (for slightly less than the price I was willing to pay to boot).

You're looking at the new owner of an RMA replacement, still under warranty, MSI Twin Frozer III 2GB 7850. Best part, I just payed $169.00 for it.

While I've read review after review of this card, and read up on everything else to boot, I have to ask for some real world opinions (especially when it comes to Overclocking) from you guys.

Was this a steal, or would I have been better off going for something else at that price range?

It seems like a nice deal for the money you paid and overclock very well
But the hd 7870 seems better 'can be Oc to equal the hd 7950) but more expansive( about 250$)

Oh totally. I mean the 7870 is kind out of my price range to be honest. I'm just shocked I managed to find a 7850 for under 180. I don't generally get to have nice things as I do this on an extremely limited budget. Either way it's going to be so nice to replace that 6770. Especially since I'd be replacing it with something that is actually worth crossfiring down the road if it ever comes to that.

So very nice.

It's a great card. You can CF it later for 670 performance.

the price is on the higher side . you can get a factory overclocked PCS+ HD 7850 2GB (1 Ghz) for 203 with shipping (193 after rebate). with Farcry 3 included. you can sell that game coupon for 30 bucks. works out to 173 (163 with rebate). you should have tried to bargain for a better deal. say 140 would have been a good deal.

Won't lie, that would have been sweet. But honestly I had exactly 185 in my paypal account aside to spend, and didn't really have anyway of adding to that for two weeks (rent and bills are due). So as much as the deal would have worked out to be better for me eventually, I wouldn't have had the money to put towards the card up front tonight, so this works out. The reason I'm so happy is that I had all but given up hope of finding a 7000 series card within that budget and was starting to look at 6870's and 6850's when I found it. wheee.gif

I'll keep your advice in mind next year though when I'm looking for a second one to x-fire. devil.gif

eBay is awesome, especially for things that don't get obsolete - like musical instruments or glasses.
I have almost $6000 worth of guitars and amps from eBay and I didn't pay a cent over $2000 for them all.
I also have 2 pairs of Titanium Nikon eyeglasses (not available or very rare in NA) that have the best lens work I've ever had and I didn't pay $50 for the two of them. They're from China of all places.

Erm.
I just returned 2 of these (just under the 30 day wire)the OC version...
Installed 1,ran a few benchies,set up AB-
What the?Locked volts.
I tried everything to get MSI AB to work,Sapphire Trixx,Asus GPU toolset.Nuttin.
Read a few MORE reviews,assuming I have made a cool deal-nuttin.
Then trickles,then woosh.
Found a forum here(Ilove OCN) elsewhere, knowledgeable peeps advised.
No voltage adjust on this model...
Needs RBE,whole bunch of hoops to maybeunlock volts.
Maybe nice brick?
My XFX 6870's(once removed, using discarded MSI TF II coolers from now watercooled 6950)are going in thier place.
(temporary)
I say their place because I bought another last week-wanting to see if CF was scaling,
if crossfire impressed me.i WANTED THEM TO BE WORTH IT.
Some OC thru AB(Shh)around 1000/1375-OK.
Not stellar,OK.
No volts,random BSOD at speed.
Did not want to mess w/BIOS flash for volts.
Decided before 30 days to return both, suffer re-stocking,whatever.
Cashier credited all for both back into my account.
(I buy a lot(shh) of stuff there...)
I did think of getting a single MSI TF II 7870 off the shelf right there and then, but it's nearing Christmas.
(and the box did not say anywhere triple overvolting, overvolt or anything.Box outside basically a little bigger than 7850 but same badges, etc)
I am going to Xfire,(eventually)watercool & volt the cra[ out of these surprisingly rugged XFX 6870 mid price wonders.
Your 7850 should SHOULD be ok for semi large screen to 1080.
Quiet, yes, small and neat yes.A marvel of engineering.
Ultimate control?
You decide.Best of luck.

Good find, I have the PowerColor 7850 2GB reference card and it's been treating me well, although I wasn't able to unlock the voltage to OC better because the card is on a full-cover WB, it's still a great card for the price, got mine BNew via NCIX.ca for $175 with a MIR and now they're lower at $169 with MIR.
