[TPU] AMD Pushes Radeon HD 8000 "Sea Islands" Launch to 2Q-2013 - Page 5

Well this is disappointing... Was going to hold out till late January for the 8000 series, but if they are pushed back till April or later, I might have to pick up a cheap interim card.

I don't mind waiting between new releases. I'm also glad they had the pride to push it back instead of trying to release something, on time, that wasn't completed 100%, which seems to be done all too often these days, in particular, software.

They also have 79xx stock to get rid of.

I don't think that's what's happening here. Even though AMD does have the GPU performance crown atm, their market share is down and nVidia just posted record revenues. If anything they should have more incentive to get their next gen out. I don't think this is a positive sign.

What the... I'm seriously disappointed... I was going to buy the budget-gaming 8850 or 8870 as a replacement for my aging 5850.

Honestly, all these delays suggest to me that all these chip makers are scared of sunk costs. They're sitting on their current goods, hoping that things will move along when in fact they should probably be cutting losses and trying to move forward. Understandably AMD may not be in the best situation to do so but Intel delaying new fabs due to low demand while ARM just launched their new line of products? Not a good idea IMO. I guess this is simply due to the disparity between a financial mindset and economic mindset.

Crap, if AMD delays then nVidia will delay too...no point in releasing new cards if there's no competition.
I've never owned a flagship card but I've been saving up one dollar a day for almost a year plus all my change that might be just a hundred bucks shy of being able to a afford the 8970 which I hope can start to max out some games at my 1440p resolution

If Nvidia released before AMD they would have the market cornered and all the people waiting for next gen flagship cards will be forced to wait or buy Nvidia at what ever price they feel like charging thumb.gif
