[TPU] AMD Pushes Radeon HD 8000 "Sea Islands" Launch to 2Q-2013 - Page 7

This really doesn't help, if it were to be released jan - mar (as was suggested) I might have considered saving my store credit, but if its not going to be released until closer to the middle of next year, this may have just confirmed what I wanted to know and go and get 2X 7970's.
I think its actually not a bad release date, hopefully it'll fall somewhere near Intel's Haswell chips.

What's up with all the people who think this is a good thing? Just because a new GPU launches doesn't mean that you actually have to get it... Nothing will happen to your current 7970 or something

Also what Alatar said... slowing technology advancement is not a good thing. Just because 8970s come out, doesn't make your 7970s any slower.
*And some of us want to be able to max all games at higher res(or fps) which still can't be done on single cards.*

Well, incremental refreshes ended with the 6000 series to be honest, even before then with the 59xx. I'm glad, but Haswell is only 10% better than the latest Intel CPUs, blame AMD for lackluster competition beyond the Phenom IIs, I guess.

If AMD's ARM collaboration isn't a dupe, then we might see 6-8 cores from Intel in the future.

With those rumors I am not sure if I go with an HD7970 or not.
Until June is a pretty long period...

No way man. Every time a new card launches, the self destruct sequence initiates on the previous generation cards.

If they don't get card out of the system and a new one, BOOOOOOOM!!!!!!!!!! smile.gif

amd must focus more on their cpu technology now than their gpu technology. i wouldnt mind every new graphics card refresh coming every two years instead of every year from both amd and nvidia
