Power supply loud under full load

Thread Starter
I have a corsair TX850W power supply.
My PC is built for silence. Silent fans, water cooled, barely audible. When I hit full load though, I can plainly hear the PSU fan spin up. It's relatively loud compared to the rest of my rig.
Is there anything I can do about this short of buying a different power supply? I know it is dangerous to open power supplies - but can you replace the fan with any higher quality PWM fan or something?

Thanks

Sell your current unit and buy a different one, it's the best approach.

Yep. Make sure you get a more efficient power supply. More efficient ones put out less heat; therefore, the fan needs to work less to keep it cool.

A Gold or Platinum rated 750 watt good quality power supply should be sufficient for your system. Something like the Seasonic X-750.

You should look at the BeQuiet Dark Power Pro series. I have the 750w version and it is awfully quiet. They also use components which are supposed to eliminate coil whine (can't say for sure if this actually works, all I can say is that I have none).
