Whats it going to be fore?

Whats your Budget?

How skilled are you at custom work (AKA water cooling)?

What are you looking to run (LCD wize)?

budget's just as long as it doesn't go stupid. the monitor will be the new 3840×2160 Sharp IGZO 32inch. I'll be fine with the WC, been keeping fish for years and I'm a 2nd line hardware engineer, just not been in the game a while.

You start to see some diminishing returns when you go Tri-SLI - might be better to just get two cards to start and see how performance is. I'd also take a look at 7970s for that kind of setup. I wouldn't bother getting any RAM over 1866 either - no performance benefit once you get above that point (and not really even above 1600). Any reason you aren't looking at Socket 2011 for the extra PCIe lanes?

really just the cost of the processors is why i'm not going with 2011. Think i might just start with SLI and perhaps get the third one later. But 3840×2160 is a huge res to push. thats 4 x 1920 x 1080. So i figured either tri sli 680, or quad sli 690.

Never been a fan of Ati, had Nvidia all the way since back in the day.

might go with the dominator instead of the platinum. Was going to use it for overclocking the cpu, so would get used. hence watercooling.

You're definitely going to need 4GB variations of the 680 or 670 to run at that resolution. Also, 240GB of space isn't really enough to do much of anything unless you get another 240 as a dedicated games drive, and a third (non-SSD) for storage. Plus, I would look into the Samsung 840 or 830 series instead for your SSD(s). Lastly, you're spending too much on ram. You can get 16gb of 1866 G.SKILL Ripjaws for $80.

thanks man, was originally looking at the 4gb models. will be expanding the drive situation soon after build.
