Should I put Linux on my Chrome book?

Hi there,

I have bought a Samsung 11.6" Chrome book in the last few days and so far am quite happy with it. However, there are a few things that I would like to be able to do that I don't think I currently can...

Firstly, I would like to install Steam, obviously not to play games but to use the chat feature with my friends. Secondly I would like to use Team Speak for the same reasons. As of yet, I have not been able to find a way of doing either of these tasks with anything from the Chrome Store.

That's where I thought about Linux, I read somewhere that it could be installed onto this machine. Would this then enable me to do what I would like to do? How would performance be, would I lose out on anything?

I would appreciate your input on this one thanks!

Performance would probably be the same? It depends on the desktop you chose but there should be no reason you can't tweak it to be the same or better.

The recently released Samsung Chromebook actually runs alternative distributions very well, and you have a couple of options. Arch Linux is supported, and Ubuntu is functional as well.
