Best Razer Hard Pad

Thread Starter
I currently have a Goliathus control and speed edition with my 3.5G death adder.

I'd like to try out a hard pad, preferably black.

I'll be getting the DA 2013 for Christmas, so that will be my mouse.

What do you suggest?

Among plastic pads I personally prefer CM Storm HS-M Battle Pad SSK over Steelseries 4HD. I think the former has a similar surface to Roccat SOTA which is quite smooth but still controllable. SS 4HD is more scratchy (still glide very well) and less controllable. I haven't used any plastic pads from Razer (e.g. Destructor, Vespula, Scarab, Invicta), I've heard that they are good and should worth a try.

I actually prefer aluminium pads over plastic ones. I'm using a steelpad 4S and have put teflon tape over my mouse feet. It is uber smooth and fast and yet more controllable than a plastic pad. The newer Razer Manticor and Mionix Ensis 320/Luna should perform similarly.

I really like my 9HD. It's not razer, but oh well.

The only Razer hard pads that I can find in Canadian stores are the Scarab and the Vespula.

If the wrist rest removable on the Vespula?

So Vespula or Scarab? Do optical mice like the DA have any problems with these mats?

Should definitely go for the scarab - no known tracking issues with either, the scarab is just a much better built pad without all the frills

I would have preferred a darker pad, but the scarab should be fine. It looks to be big enough, and I've seen a lot of positive reviews.

I have the Razer eXact mat and it's great, been using it for years! The only problem is that I don't think they sell it anymore.

I would really suggest against getting a Vespula.
  • It was expensive for it's build quality, it was flimsy and didn't feel very good at all.
  • It was small, I play with what some consider a high sensitivity and found myself running out of space
  • The grip to the table was shoddy. It may stick slightly better to glass but for me, it was awful. I think the issue was that the feet didn't have enough surface area.

It was swiftly returned and I went back to my eXactmat

eXactmat looks a little small and I don't see it in any stores.

I currently use a goliathus extended, so I have 290mm vertically, and about 350-400mm horizontally.
