Steam Scam

Thread Starter
I recently purchased 2 copies of Monopoly on Steam. One for me and a gift for a friend of mine. Before I made the purchased I checked to see if the game supported multi-player and it clearly showed that it did.

The game DID NOT support multi-player. It only supports local multi-player so I sent in a ticket on the same day asking for a refund since the game was clearly mis-represented.

I finally received a reply just now and this is what it said:

Hello,

A staff member has replied to your question:

Hello Nhon,

Thank you for contacting Steam Support.

It is listed on the Steam store page that this game is available in single player and local co-op modes only.

So these scamming bastards update the store page to show local multi-player and now I look like the dumbass who is out $20 from thier scamming BS. Here is the game forums with many people complaining about the same issues so I am not making this up. http://steamcommunity.com/app/221300/discussions/

I don't even care about the $20. If thats how they do business and treat thier customers by trying to scam and make them look like idiots, than they can have the $20. Steam customer service is garbage!

I'm not a steam hater since I have over $1k worth of games on it but why the hell is thier customer service garbage. You would think with all that money they make they can atleast have decent CS

Yeah, that is messed up.

I had that happen when buying Virtua Fighter 2 from the store. I wasn't aware they just provided an emulated sega saturn version instead of the actual PC version of the game, and support was completely useless.

For as good as Valve is with making a platform and implementing ideas like GreenLight they sure suck at end user support.

I have to ask, what's the proof that it didn't say that?

It states Local Co-op on the side and has "Note: Multi-player is hot-seat multi-player only. Online multi-player is not supported." in the details as of this post.

If you read my OP, when I purchased the game on Dec 1st I made sure the game supported multiplayer before i bought 2 copies. Why would I just make some BS out of nowhere for a $10 game? I know the store page says local multiplayer only because it was updated to reflect that.

No need to be upset at me. I was playing devil's advocate. I just checked through the forums and a thread was started on the 30th about the local/online confusion. Consider researching prior to purchase in the future. The steam forums specific to each game can be very helpful. In this case they very well might have been.

As for the refund, try to be as cooperative and concise as possible on the ticket. Don't be a D. The forums state it blatantly that it was labeled vaguely rather than incorrectly. Be patient and I'm sure that CS will oblige.

EDIT: And let it be known that you didn't mention Dec 1st purchase until your second post in the thread.

Not upset at you bro. Steam support already said they won't refund me which is not a big deal to me. They can keep it. I'm just trying let everyone know how bad steam CS is.

I think calling this a scam is a little harsh. There was an incorrect listing on the store page and they fixed it. If you explained the problem to CS the same way you explained it here, then I'm not surprised they denied your claim. I would try again clearly and politely stating the problem.
