Looking for good replacements for my old gadgets.

So...I decided to use Windows 8 on my sig rig. The only thing I am really missing from Windows 7 is my old gadgets. I had an entire monitor dedicated to them. Temps, utilization, weather, clocks from a few different time zones, network monitoring, drive activity...plus a bunch more. All kinds of useful info for my viewing pleasure that would fill up an entire 19" 1440x900 display.

Now that MS decided to kill gadgets in Windows 8 because not enough users used them...though I've never seen a desktop that didn't have at least a weather gadget on it...I need to find a way to replace all this.

Let's start with just the monitoring software. What is a good tool for temps and utilization reporting? I haven't even had to think about this for a long time...not since the launch of Vista.

Once I pick something to use...is there a way to pin something to the desktop in Windows 8? Basically turn an application into a Gadget.

This might end up driving me back to Windows 7...I am really missing my gadgets.

Core temp would be one of them...It will not even recognize the files

How did you install it?

Ahhh....never mind. There are a few unofficial ways to get gadgets back. I've only read the official stuff from Microsoft on the OS thus far.

I will need to try some of these options.

Hmm I am trying the "8Gadgetpack" option and I am getting some mixed results. It seems that it only will work about every other time I power on my machine. Some times my machine will just lockup as soon as the boot is finished or it will work, but I'll get a warning that the gadgets couldn't start and I will just not have them...then the next time I boot all the gadgets pop up and are working fine.

Any one ever mess with the 8GadgetPack?
