Z77 motherboard list

Thread Starter
Hi,
Soon I will be getting a i5-3570 not K because I don't really need it and I would become tempted to overclock then shorten the life of my CPU and my current Pentium 4 has lasted 6 years!! With the CPU I will be getting new RAM and a new case and a bunch of other things. I still have NO idea what motherboard to get. Is there some list of all the Z77 motherboards so I can choose what one to get or failing that can you suggest a motherboard. I would like support for crossfire and maybe some old PCI slots because we have loads of PCI boards around. I would like this to be as cheap as possible and so I would not like any overclocking support unless it's cheaper with it. If you give a suggestion please state WHY!!!

For a budget, if you can stretch it a bit, I would recommend the ASRock Extreme4 $135. its a very powerful board, and will support all your needs perfectly. If you wait for a sale, you may be able to find it closer to $100

Edit: nevermind

I haven't seen Z77 SLI board for that cheap...

This is the cheapest.

Edit: if you have to stay closer to $100, you can take a look at the PRO3 - $95

MSI Z77A-GD55 is a better deal with Newegg prices, but OP most likely lives in UK.
Pro 3 doesn't support SLI.

I've thought about it some more and I don't need legacy PCI. Just any motherboard with Crossfire and not necessarily SLI because I do all my video editing with Vegas. I can get a board with that for £77 and THAT has overclocking. I was just wandering if there was anything cheaper than this.

The problem with all boards that do Crossfire only is that they are running it in X16/X4 mode. That's just terrible. Moreover X4 is 2.0 since it's tied to chipset. Otherwise, Z77-D3H is probably the cheapest. This is very similar to it.

So if I get a 7850 and plug it in i would still get full speed but if I plugged in 2 7850's the pcie would lower to 4x??? Why does this happen with only Crossfire not SLI and would this make and REAL difference to the speed if I had 2 in? I have an 8800GT right now so most things are better!!

First card will still be running at X16, but second would run at X4.

It doesn't happen on SLI because only motehrboards that do X8/X8 or more can be certified for SLI.

You can run Crossfire on any board that has two slots at any speed unlike SLI. If you run Crossfire on a board that allows X8/X8, it will obviously run at X8/X8.

http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Intel/Ivy_Bridge_PCI-Express_Scaling/11.html

There is a good performance hit with current generation of cards at X4 2.0. It will only increase as GPUs become more powerful.
