just noticed that it said the ASUS Crosshair IV Formula board is refurbished, is it safe? I'm only worried cause I'm thinking of getting it but I haven't herd of this site before and I don't want it to be all messed up If bought it :\

they've been around a long time, so that should tell you something. the new asrock board is not really all that bad. it should allow for some overclock.

i'm actually rethinking this would it be worth it to get a new motherboard for my CPU? or should i get a new amd apu or something. i don't game much at all i mostly do rendering and video editing

If you dont game at all then your are somewhat fine with that CPU in my opinion its pretty good all around..except for overclocking..i cant get mine past 3.8GHz, without adding a ton of voltage to it.
speaking of that..becareful when your overclock, i found out that a 500watt PSU is not enough for this CPU. It has callistio cores, that are optimized for 35watts per core. Add it up thats 140TDP. on top of that theres the overclock. My system uses about 250watts with just stressing out the CPU @ 4ghz.

Also another thing, I am not 100% sure on this but if you want speedy video conversions you might want a GPU with CUDA, or something like intels quicksync, from waht ive seen that speeds up conversions greatly however that would require you to change your hardware a bit
