[Build Log] Calamity (SM8/G1 Sniper 3 Water Cooled Build) - Page 42

Yah, I remember reading their stance on filtration design ... sigh. It wasn't until I had the Silverstone filter fitted that it became apparent at what a non-solution it is for filtering radiator fans. Your method is the only way ... and that semiannual cleaning - teardown - is gonna be the only way to ensure a thorough cleaning. Sigh .... W/C builds are higher maintenance, no doubt, but nothing to tasking - just laborious.

Time for some pictures! biggrin.gif I finished painting the UT60 240, and I got it fitted in and mocked up to get an idea of the colors and how I want to dive into the next step. I took a couple of quick shots showing off the painted radiator, the radiator mocked up in the build, and some teasers of what it would look like with the lime green/white fans. Exciting news is that I might have found a green spray paint on this island that matches my other greens! This would make painting anything I wanted green SO much easier, as I would not have to layer and blend paints (so everything would actually be uniform). I need to wait a few more days to go and get it, but should be trying it out this coming week to see how it looks. thumb.gif

Just a friendly reminder to ignore the mess and random wires/tubing, as nothing is actually up and running yet! Also, the green fans are slightly off from one another in color (I know this tongue.gif). I am hoping this is fixed if the new paint I found matches well! thumb.gif

**I would also love if anyone who is good with taking pictures and knows anything about Canon Ti DSLR's would PM me! I have some questions about how to make my picture quality better, as when this build is done I want to give it the photo showcase it deserves**

Finished painting.

Mocked up in the build.

Some teaser shots!

Good job Addiction on the paint job. thumb.gif

I gather you're still keen on the green fans. Good you found the green paint that matches.

Personally I have no problem with your photos.

Thanks AVictorD! thumb.gif I personally think my photos are a bit over saturated, and everything is too bright due to the lighting I have available (or lack there of) so the flash ruins it for me. As for the fans, yeah I am still thinking about green. I just can't get away from it! If this green does indeed match, though, I am contemplating green frames and white blades even. I think that would keep it from being too much white paint in one area. I'll have to see once I get the paint in hand though.

So I was able to procure that green spray paint I was talking about earlier. I did 1 coat of it on a random stock Corsair fan to see how it would match up to MDPC sleeving (which I would prefer over the paracord as it holds better, is a nice color and is easier to work with. It also allows me to sleeve the sata/usb 4.o cables). I must say, it is a near 100% match in person. It is pretty close in pictures too. The only green that would really be different is the motherboard green (which is very minimal, so I'm not really concerned about that). But this would have the sleeving, paint and mayhems (after I add some dye to tune the color) be pretty much identical in color! thumb.gif I took shots of the fan next to MDPC Toxic Green, and of it in front of the motherboard (the lighting was no good for the motherboard shots, but it at least gives you an idea of the green paint against the black/white, and that the motherboard green is lighter and less vivid). Let me know what you all think about the color though, and whether you think the motherboard being lighter would affect it too much. Thanks! thumb.gif

I also wanted to post some pictures of what I can hopefully get back into shortly when we leave Hawaii (as it is illegal on this island... mad.gif). One of my longest passions and hobbies, to my wife's dismay. tongue.gif This was my last "baby" (Clark Line-Purple Albino Reticulated Python) before I had to sell off everything/give them to my friends in the hobby. Twas a sad day indeed.

The Green looks to match in the shots. thumb.gif The Mobo color will disappear as components are added anyway.

Where I live you can have snakes but you must be licensed. Typically here the entire continent has them everywhere along with other unusual animals. thumb.gif

Yeah, I figure you would only really be able to see a tiny bit of the mobo's green to be honest. So no big deal there. I figure I can get the mayhems pastel green to get pretty close with some of his dyes, too. I've seen a few people that have done it on forums over the last coupe of month, so I'm not worried. Even if I wanted to have the mobo match with the greens, I could always use the paracord and keep the mayhems the way it is, and the fans would just a bit more vibrant (which still looks nice, I compared those colors with the fan after I painted it too, for good measure thumb.gif).

I was actually licensed to breed large constrictors back home, and had been doing it as a hobby for a long time. Believe it or not though, Hawaii actually has zero indigenous species of snakes. There are a couple of small house gecko and skink species, but that is it. They are very strict about animal control laws and bringing in things that could potentially make the island end up like Guam with the brown tree snake or Florida with large pythons and boas. Sucks I couldn't continue with it here, but I understand their concern for their ecosystem and stuff.

Why hello there wave2.gif Looks like I came in just at the right time to catch some sexy painted rads. Looks good, what kind of paint did you use? I like the flat white.

Hey Mike! Haven't seen you around here in a bit. tongue.gif I used Rustoleum Painters Touch Ultra Cover 2X Flat White (Paint Link). I love the look, and the finish of it. It leaves a semi course touch to it, very much like the CaseLabs Matte White. It is also a very similar color too, only slightly brighter. It will also stick to anything, even plastics. This makes it a perfect spray paint for a build IMO since you can use the same paint for anything and everything to keep it all matching. thumb.gif
