[Build Log] Calamity (SM8/G1 Sniper 3 Water Cooled Build) - Page 8

post #71 of 513
I would go with option 2 with the whole motherboard tray white. It might mean you have white on the exterior back of your case, but that won't be in view much anyway. Flex bays are up to you, since you're going to have a rad there anyway you won't see much if anything from the inside of the case, so go with what you'd rather see from the outside- black on black or white on black.

Having options is overwhelming... but even more awesome is if you ever get tired of one scheme, or if one piece doesn't look right, you can swap it out for the other color!

Small Teaser: I took a few minutes to try my hand at doing shrinkless sleeving with Paracord, and I must say, it is not fun. tongue.gif It seems to be even less forgiving on length of the Paracord to the length of the cable. That being said, I took a couple of quick shots of the cable I did. It isn't anything fancy, it was just a random 4 pin molex with 4 pin fan splitter. I just snipped the fan wires off (which did leave a bulge at one end of the molex connectors that you are actually able to see-this probably made it harder than it would usually be, and isn't indicative of what the final product will be). Therefore, it is a short cable, just a sample of the scheme I will most likely be doing for my wiring. The connectors will also be black in the grand scheme of things, this is just the connectors that were on the cable that was used. Let me know what you think! thumb.gif

I think the ultimate plan for the larger cables (6 pin, 8 pin and 24 pin) will be mostly green and white, with a splash of black for contrast.

G=Green
B=Black
W=White

6 pin:
GWG
GBG

8 pin:
GWWG
GWBG

24 pin:
GGWWBGGBWWGG
GGWWBGGBWWGG

That is my plan so far. I am not sure which color I will do fan cables and the such in yet. I want to see how it goes with the rest of the major cables first. I will post some picks of those schemes I just laid out as soon as I can (Hopefully over the weekend) so you guys can get an idea of what it will look like and let me know your thoughts and opinions. thumb.gif

Thanks, and welcome Khepira! If you are even thinking about it, just do it. I don't even have mine yet (shipped out today! biggrin.gif), and I am already in love haha. Just the thought of the possibilities this case brings to the table is exhilarating. tongue.gif If I fall in love with it enough once it is here (which I am sure I will), I may even be moving my "backup" rig into a SM8 or a M8. It is going to be my wife's rig, but she doesn't use a desktop all that much (she sticks with her laptop most times), so it would give me another sweet rig to tinker with when I want to keep mine up and running for gaming. It will also be the folding rig, so it would let me do a nice water loop in it to keep it running cool. The 650D it is in now just isn't going to cut it for my i7 930 @ 3.8ghz and my 2 GPU's as far as putting it under water is concerned. tongue.gif

I'm about to move back to good ol' Merica and I will be definitely considering it. I'd like to get it powdercoated from them before they ship, seems other guys have had great experiences with that also. The only consideration is I'm not even done with my current Mountain Mods build! Haha, such is the life of a modder/ builder... biggrin.gif

When I contacted Jim (Owner of CaseLabs) about custom powder coating, he mentioned that they could indeed get it done, but they were not the ones that would be doing it. They are super busy these days, and IIRC, they send it out to FTW PC to do it (someone on the forums here is in business with FTW PC I believe to get it done-his name eludes me at the moment...Smasher something or other). He also mentioned it would be a LOT more expensive, due to the extra handling, shipping and custom coating itself of course. Just some food for thought if you are thinking about going that route. It also wouldn't be a bad idea to contact Jim yourself in advance to get the details worked out so you can have an easy order when the time comes. thumb.gif I know how you feel about starting projects before one is even finished thought, the itch just never stops! Oh, and have a safe trip coming back to America! thumb.gif Military what sent you overseas by any chance?
