Hello I'm new to this site and overclocking still trying to understand how it works i had it up to 3.7ghz by usin that auto tune but I wanted to try goin higher like 4.3 - 4.5ghz soo I just updated my bios not to long ago so everything reseted here are my specs

Crosshair V formula motherboard
AMD FX 8120 8-core
GTX 560ti
16gb ram
Corsair h80 liquid cooler at max settings
Cooler master tower
default stock settings

Also what are good programs to use to stress test it and will they tell me what errors I will have that'll show unstability and also do I need to enable/disable anything in the settings of the bios

Get HWMONITOR from cpuid, and Prime95 for stress testing. Then go here...

so here is my spec on gettin 4.5ghz but when I tried testing it on the prime95 i get a little small window poppin up saying "warning SB voltage 0.000 V" what does that mean and also on the HWmonitor am I watchin how much the temp increases? how low should the temp be to not have the cpu overheat?

soo i went down to 4.3ghz since my temp was goin up pretty quick but im still gettin warning windows poppin up durin stress test sayin SB or NB voltage 0.000 any ideas what it suppose to mean cuz i dont see anything droppin to 0.000

Have you tried updating the bios?

yes ive updated my bios before i started overclocking

i have an Asus M5A97 and i get those crazy messages all the time saying: "warning cpu voltage at 3.5764 volts!!" or "warning north bridge at 345 degrees celcius!!" they are complete crap and if those situations actually happened my computer would have crashed in no time, but it didn't, so the messages are nothing to worry about. thumb.gif

Uninstall whatever ASUS application is causing those pop-ups.

that should be easy the crosshair need to only use a medium or high cpu load line to get a stable current under load at 4ghz, its got massive head room.

like this but with 22.5 x cpu ratio and up the voltage accordingly.i got 4.6ghz with 1.464v.

one: go in to bios, hit del at start-up till you get to a blue-grey screen before windows.
two: go to the adavanced tab, then go in to cpu config and disable cool and quite and everything there on that tab.(c1e,c6 state, apm)
three: press esc and go down one to northbridge,go in there and theres one thing to go in to , there you will see ECC enabled, disable that.( happens on asus mobo's)

now for the overclock......

four: got to the ai tuner tab of bios and change it to manual from auto.
five: got to cpu ratio and change to 20 x
six: disable turbo core
seven: go to ref clock and change to 200
eight: change your ram to the right speed, 1600mhz or what ever
nine: go to cpu load line config and change to high.
ten: go to cpu voltage change to manual and change that to 1.29v

now got to that last tab in bios save and exit.

you should now boot at 4ghz and be near stable under full load.

need to test your cpu load line config with a heavy load , like prime ,hyper pi or something, watch your voltage and give it a little blip of prime, what voltage do you get under full load, move you load line up or down for incresses or decresses to voltage and make it level under full load
EDIT;this is my copy and paste advice for fx.
